Prayer of St. Francis
my favorite saint


Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

1. My favorite prayer...
A noble goal, something to strive for.

"We seek spiritual progress, rather than spiritual perfection..."

Certainly the way I'd like to live, according to that prayer. Must keep seeking, I guess...

2. i like that saying
i'm not much cop on the spiritual aspect, but spirituality can take many forms. when i commune with nature, it brings me closer to "great things" type of ideation.

i maintain my cheerfulness by thinking along these lines.

3. Nature and spirit, i think, are one and the same...
Not so convinced about the deity thing, some dude on a throne tossing lightning bolts, etc.

But karma? yes... Spirit? yes... Some divine power? Perhaps...

All i know is on my own, I fuck things up.

John Michael Talbot does a beautiful rendition of that; very simple, only acoustical guitar, flute, and his voice.

It is really quite beautiful and a great way to remember the "prayer of St. Francis".

13. The triplets attend St. Francis of Assisi School.
So I am certain that they will become well acquainted with that eloquent prayer. But they just finished kindergarten, so it may be a bit early....
