Amusing exchange on "Judge Judy"

(Plaintiff - Female - Claimed to have 'loaned' approximately $300 to the Defendant.)

(Defendant - Male - Claimed that the money was a 'gift'.)

(Witness - Male - Friend of Defendant.)

Judge Judy (Pointing to the witness): "Is he a witness or is he here for moral support?"

Defendant: "He's a witness, Your Honour."

Judge Judy (Motions witness to the Defendant's table): "What do you know about this?"

Witness: "I was there when she loaned him the money."

Judge Judy: "Thank you. Sit down. Judgement for the Plaintiff. . ."

(Defendant and Witness both looked stunned.)

and no matter how funny it might be, it sure isn't 'justice' in any sense of the word. remember, these are the cases the REAL legal system wouldn't touch.

I knew someone who went on there and for sure had a real court case. He decided to do it because he was certain that he would win, he got paid by the show, and he got a free trip. Soooo, it was a "win-win" for him. And he did win the judgement as well.

they are small claims cases. go spend some time in small claims court, it's a mess. and going on these shows, if you don't mind the potential humiliation. basically, as I understand it, there is a fund of $5,000 for each case they hear. person who wins gets their judgement from that, and then the two 'litigants' split the remainder of the pot. plus airfare/hotel/expenses. it's a good deal, really.

and it's not, of course, a real court, it is technically, binding arbitration.

Judge Judy has that effect on people - the truth comes out.

they have super powers, ya know.

If witness had been escorted to the stand and knew the questioning would begin and had time to think before answering, he would have remembered his story "correctly."

I love Judge Judy. I think she should be cloned, and I'm not joking!

It reminds me of the story Todd Snider tells about one of his songs. He says it's taken nearly verbatim from an episode he saw of Judge Judy.

That's when I think they might have planted marijuana in her suitcase
A court appointed lawyer told us, cop a plea
So we copped a plea
