I just watched the special on HBO about Barbaro
as a horse owner my heart broke....
The people surrounding this horse were awesome.......
the Dr's fought so hard
and Barbaro.... He was almost human in his actions and responses to treatment.....

I know there are people who think riding horses is wrong....
I have got to say to them.....
next time you get a chance look into a horses eyes.......
really look
My Doc has soft, gentle and knowing eyes...
I bought him because of his eyes.....
He is young and rambunctious
but we love each other..... he rubs his snout on my chest when I go to see him and ride.....
and he LOVES it when I brush him......
He LOVES mints :)

This guy lives on my property. (I rent the house and an acre, the owner farms the rest) He's smart, funny, nosy (no one gets past him) and I adore him. He loves to be around people.

5. Would it be an appropriate show for a 9 yr old?
My daughter loves horses and riding. Do you think that program would be emotionally difficult for a 9 year old (almost 10)? She's pretty strong watching scary movies and such, but being an animal softy like her momma...and since it's a true story. Hmmmmm...

I don't know.

until he breaks his leg....
then it gets sad...
I'll bet she already knows the story.
If you watch it with her and she is a mature 9 yr old it would be ok
I am sure questions would be asked ......
She will see Barbaro was loved and everything that could be done
was.......

19. I'm not against riding horses, just racing them.
The horse racing industry breeds far too many horses that ultimately end their lives in misery.

Many horses sustain career or life-ending injuries in the quest to entertain humans.

By all means, keep them as pets and companions or as therapy animals. They are wonderful creatures.

22. The only thing I find wrong with riding horses is.....
people who don't take care of their horses or abuse their horses (too many sad episodes of Animal Prescint).

I remember a comment in the movie "Seabiscuit" when someone questioned the jockey if Seabiscuit could hold his weight (SB had broken an ankle and they rehabiltated him). The jockey (played by Toby Magwire) said "The Horse weighs 1200lbs, I'm just an afterthought"
