Severed Goat Head Prompts Suspicion In Death Of Baby Dolphin

KEY LARGO -- Wildlife officials are investigating whether a severed goat's head had anything to do with the sudden death of a baby dolphin born to a deaf mother named Castaway.

The head, with its jaw wired shut, was found in the water by dolphin caretakers on June 15, the same morning the calf died at the Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo. Castaway, rescued off Vero Beach last year, gave birth June 11 at the center.

The federal law enforcement arm of the National Marine Fisheries Service was working with conservancy to determine if there was any evidence of foul play. No such evidence had surfaced as of this week, and results of a necropsy and toxicology tests were not expected for several weeks.

Robert Lingenfelser, who runs the conservancy, said the all-volunteer hospital has been the target of harassment by people who don't agree with the way they rescue and treat marine mammals. He said he believed the goat head was a warning for them to stop their work.

I hate to carp on the subject, but
the authorities must find out if the culprit did this on porpoise or just
for the halibut.
I hope any witnesses found dont clam up, and tell the truth.
The police must find out whoever did this nasty deed,and not let this investigation flounder, the people responsible will be saury they ever did something like this.
There has to be a ray of hope somewhere, they will not be able to skate out of this problem,
look into your sole, and cod damnit find them.
