I heard on the radio that income below $58,000 in Stamford, CT will qualify a family for housing assistance.

7. Actually, housing assistance thresholds are set based on local area medians
Other government problems use similar approaches to defining persons in need based on local incomes too, and not all use the same standard. Sometimes state programs are more generous than the Fed.
The poverty line is as defined in the HHS link above.
