73. horribly common name
i know so many girls with the same first and middle name as i (but no 'h' is the only way to spell it :P)

my younger sister's name didn't even crack the top 1,000 until 1993 (nine years after she was born)
one half-sister's name isn't on the list. the other's didn't make it to the list until 1982, but is actually now more popular than mine

If I have kids, I will give them freakishly obscure first names and boring middle names. So they can be freakishly obscure or boring. Their choice. :D

Yeah, I just looked for 1980 (figuring you were probably born within 5 years of that date) and then looked for a name in the top 10 and a variant down in the 20's. :P

Of course, by the time the kid picks it will be WAY TOO LATE :bwahaha:

There are 5 other alternate spellings that were in the top 1000 last year :(

I hate it when I see someone named Tristin, Tristen, Triston, Trystan, etc. The name is Tristan, Tristram, or even Tristam, and nothing else. And in no way in hell is it a girl's name

I'm surprised it's that high, I only met the first other person with my name when I was 21, and it was a member of the opposite sex, up until then had only heard on one other person with the same name. My last name is unusual also, only about 7 adults in US with the same name.

But think about it: how many people named Jennifer, Amy, Heather, Melissa, Michelle, Lisa, Mary, Julie, Laura, Christine, Karen, Pamela, Linda, Elizabeth, Deborah, Diane, or Kathleen have you met?

Now take ALLLLLL of them out of the number of females you know...

It's WAY worse for men... I don't know many men who DON'T have names in the top 20 for the years 1945-1980.

64. #16.
My first name, which is not what I go by, was #41 that year.

Sister - first name #12 middle name #25. She went by her first name.

Dad, middle name #61, which he went by.

Mom, diminutive of middle name which she went by, #8.

We're just not real imaginative.

===========
Lots of names that used to be men's names have now turned into women's names> Often they are British.
Examples: Joyce, as in Joyce Kilmer, poet. Evelyn as in Evelyn Waugh, novelist.
Beverly. Vivian. Leslie. Shirley. Connie (as in Connie Mack).

In 1928, it wasn't even in the top 1,000. But starting in 1929, the name slowly grew in popularity. In 1938, it ranked 242, and jumped to 86 in 1939. Interesting.

My older son's name is now ranked #4. My in-laws gave me hell when I picked the name; and swore that he'd be teased. It ranked 321 the year he was born.

It was in the top 5 for much of the 80's-2000's. My parents were ahead of their time I guess.

I didn't do too badly for my kids (not so into trendy names, but not so into unusual names either- just more classic). They're 175, 12, 26, 268, and my stepson is #25!

Judith/Judy

But when you add the two together, it only comes to 2.5% of the female births that year (or approx. one in forty girls). That can't be right: there were three "Judy's" in my kindergarten class alone. Never had a class throughout elementary to high school when there weren't at least two of us!

I blame "The Wizard of Oz".
