My old dog just chowed down on a plum tomato
I walked over to the fridge for a cold tea, it fell out and boom, she was on it like me if I saw a hundred dollar bill. I think she's done this before. Devoured it in about 30 seconds.

Wow.

1. my dog loves fresh tomatoes off the vine.
Even if they are peak-ed or have a bad spot she will eat them. Cute dog. :hi:

2. I adopted her over a year ago
She's 13 now, bad arthritis in her front paws. Her original owner went back to England in '05 to pass on. She's an English Bull Terrier, one of the most demanding, smartest, and funniest dogs I have ever shared my home with.

31. Mine Too
Loves them. Eats almost any vegetable, but doesn't like raw celery, broccoli, or cauliflower. But, will eat all three if cooked.

We go out to the garden and eat tomatoes together all the time.

4. How cute
I had a horse who ate an onion once - I must have picked it in the garden or something - at any rate, I was holding it and he bulled right in and indicated he wanted it. So I let him. He made some strange faces but ate the darn thing. Goofball.

5. Isn't that the same kind of dog
as in the Target ads? And if memory serves me right, that breed was also used in the movie "The Incredible Journey". I loved that movie and the book as well.

She's very cute!

6. Yup, she's a multi-color, I got her from the Bull Terrier
Rescue Association here in NJ. I had heard about her from friends who have a 6 year old brindle colored male (retired stud) and since no one wants older animals I jumped in.

I am so glad I did.

Thanks

9. A lot of people mistake them
for Pit Bulls. We have tons of Pit Bulls around here. I would say nearly 1/2 of the adult dogs that end up in the pound are Pit Bulls.

I'm so glad you got her too. :loveya:

11. My vets had never seen one in their practice before me and Corey stopped by
One night she stated her "crazy time". They roll around and shake on the floor or carpet to scratch themselves because their hips and "knees" aren't like other dogs. I thought she was having spasms until the vet looked it up. I also have to put sun screen on her white skin and belly. And she's allergic to certain plants too.

14. They do seem to be a rather rare breed.
I think partly because they are mistaken for Pit Bulls. Does she ever lay on her stomach with her back legs stretched out behind her? Our dog does that. She's the first dog I've had that would lay like that. Although, I have seen others in that position.

10. We had a dog who could gobble up a plate full of Chinese food in just a few minutes
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 06:41 PM by brentspeak
One time, my mom put her plate of Chinese food on the stairs to answer the door, and vroom! Our little West Highland White Terrier raced in from nowhere to wolf down half-a-pint of shrimp lo-mein.

13. I also had a dog who ate an entire chocolate cake
You know how you're not supposed to give a dog chocolate because it can kill them? Well, my then-husband baked me a cake for my birthday - from scratch even! It was a double layer, double fudge cake with mocha cream frosting.

He went outside to do something, came back in and sat at the table then realized something was missing. The plate was on the floor, immaculately clean and my dog was sitting there with a big round belly and a smile.

Never even burped.

16. Our dog Henry...
loooooooves him some cabbage. He's a beagle/cocker spaniel mix (stubborn nose hound) and adores cabbage. Likes other veggies & fruit but will fight for cabbage. Yes, it affects his gaseous discharge. But it's really cute!

Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 09:31 PM by DainBramaged
Sleeps at my feet when I sit here, next to the bed, walks to the door with me when I go to work. I hope she is over her first human. When her time comes, I will adopt another. What a cool breed of dog.

21. Once they trust you
you have a friend for life.

My little lost soul is here by my side right now. Found her 8 years ago, abandoned, abused and starved. She's my girl. And she's got a big sis dog, who accepted her right away and four cat friends.

22. I once had a dog
who went crazy for watermelon and another we called the "garbage disposer" because he loved carrot peelings, potato peels, pretty much anything that fell on the floor.

I now have a cat who begs for lettuce. Go figure.

Word of advice, do not be alarmed if your dog's next poop looks red because of the tomato, and beware of giving her too much at once because the acid might upset her tummy.

23. Did a communal garden with some friends at the home of one of our group
His two dogs noticed how we pulled weeds and picked pests off the plants. They took to weeking and pest control themselves. Good doggies, and smart! But they took their pay in tomatoes as those ripened up. Didn't eat them all, but did take a calculated 'fair share' percentage, leaving each of the rest of us with pretty much the same 'shares'.

Dogs can learn to garden, do math, and they LOVE tomatoes.

28. I had a German Shepherd
about 20 years ago who would have crawled over broken glass for asparagus. He loved it. If we were eating asparagus he would beg at the table, something he never did. One time I turned to look out the window at something my mom was pointing to and faster than lightening he gobbled up all the asparagus on my plate.

33. Right now we have 2 greys, 2 whippets and a siberian husky
The greys are tall enough to get anything they want right off the table with just a flick of their tongues. The whippets are so damned quick that they just jump and grab and the husky just begs. If we have company, the husky is also really good at figuring out who is the weakest individual there and mugging them for food. A couple of years ago a bunch of our friends were over for lunch. One of the couples is a true Mutt'nJeff - she is petite and weights about 90 pounds soaking wet and he is 6 foot and about 275. She made a sandwich and sat down at the table to eat, but made the mistake of taking her eyes off her plate. The husky approached stealthly on her 6, waited a minute to make sure her attention didn't wander back to the plate, then thrust his head under her arm and grabbed her sandwich. The really funny thing was that her husband was sitting opposite her, watched the whole episode unfold and didn't do anything except laugh. I'm guessing that they had a "discussion" in the car going home afterwards. Our male grey loves bread. A few years ago, my husband had made a loaf in the bread machine and left it cooling on the counter while he went to the bathroom. As he put it - when I came out, all I saw was a red blur going by with a large white thing on its nose. Sam, our red brindle male, had grabbed the loaf off the counter, stuck his head all the way in to eat it and then run off, with loaf still stuck on his head, when my husband made his re-appearance. Sam really enjoyed that loaf of bread.

34. My guys love bread too
If I go to make toast or PB&J sandwiches, I better share with them or they bark and whine long after I put the bread away. Corey is the worst little grub I ever met. she was 45 pounds when I got her, she is now 65 and healthy. She is afraid of the basement (I think she spent too much time there) but loves people and other dogs.

Good luck to you and your great fur family.
