At what age did you become an adult?
By that I mean: when did you start to think in mature, responsible ways? For me, 32.

3. I became an adult in real life at age 11...
when my dad died and it was just me and my mom. Having all my Uncles telling me that I was "the man of the house now" sort of put the fear into me.

In DU, I have yet to become an adult.

4. It more like,
How consistently was I an adult at various ages. I started being an adult when I was 14. But I wasn't consistently an adult all the time until I was 24.

Nah, it's really when I was 20. Parenthood does that to people. Except when it doesn't- the results then are kinda scary. :scared:

10. 18...when I left home for college.
The difference---the opportunity and need to make my own decisions---was immediately apparent, even if it took me awhile to figure some of it out. Getting OUT was the biggest and first step.

moved to Southern California with our small daughter...

We had no other adults to rely on; we were on our own!

I was nearly 25 years old...

On that summer's day
When I became a man
At the hands of a girl
Almost twice my age

:D

Okay...obviously my real answer is "not yet." I was an adult when I was a kid. Now I'm going the other way.

28. 20. My dad died when I was 17, I went to college & got married at 20.
I finished college and then got divorced after 7 years of marriage.

I had to grow up quick. My mom still had my siblings to raise by herself.
I went on and got my degree and began my career.

42. 20 - The moment my son was born
I know I've done some immature things since them, but as soon as I heard the words 'spina bifida' I knew I had to take charge and be responsible. 18 years later I'm waiting 'til I can go back and be that 20 year-old kid again. (But I won't give my son back for anything!!)

43. 16.
My father had just died, and I realized my sister lived too far away. I was alone. I pretty much took care of myself after that. I fixed my own meals and washed my own clothes. I wasn't allowed to have a job, but if I had, my mom knew it would have only been a matter of time before I was gone. She was right. I would have graduated and disappeared. Things were that bad.
