Chef In Trouble For Serving Half-Dead Fish (Still twitching to show freshness)
<snip>

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A chef in Taiwan is in trouble with animal lovers after reportedly serving a not-quite-dead fish as a gourmet delicacy.

A Taiwanese newspaper said the fish dish includes a carp covered with sweet-and-sour sauce, its body deep-fried but its head still twitching.

Animal lovers criticize the practice, saying deep-frying will cause a fish extreme pain.

The chef said the dish -- known as "yin yang fish" -- is popular in China. Chefs use it to show customers how very fresh their food is.

The newspaper said Taiwanese officials will try to persuade the chef to cook something else.

3. okaaayyy
:popcorn:

I can kind of see the need for this because when I was a youngun my family went to Taiwan and during a VERY hoity toity meal with some colleagues of my father one course was this deep fried whole fish. It really did look like someone picked it up off the shore after sitting in the sun for day or two...maybe the twitching is to offset that impression. :puke:

4. Like it's any worse than what a fish in the wild, being eaten by a bear or gator
or snake or other fish goes through.

Jesus.

8. That's a really pessimistic view--the fish was half *alive*

Uh, yeah, I guess it would. I accidentally dipped my thumb in the fryer back when I worked at Burger King, and it hurt like hell.
