MIAMI, FL - A congressional group concerned about the effects of climate change will make a proposal in Congress to combat rising sea levels by making the oceans deeper. The group, led by Representative Colleen Brown - FL, will present the legislation both as a solution to one of the consequences of global warming, as well as a huge public works project to provide a stimulus to the sluggish economy. "This economy has disenfranchised many Americans who care about the environment but aren't fortunate enough to do anything about it." said Brown, speaking at a rally outside a Miami social services center. "This bill will galvanize those who have suffered environmental injustice, homogenize those in disparity, and send a clear message to global temperature inequity."
Some scientists agree that this simple concept may be the best way to offset projected increases in sea levels. "There's no doubt that it would work, and this idea has already seen serious consideration." said Lyndon Schmaltz, professor of Analytic Oceanography at Howyflyl University. "There was recently some discussion of a project to reclaim the Sahara desert from the Atlantic. (see story here) Perhaps these projects could work hand-in-hand."
Critics, though, warn that lowering the ocean floor may cause a myriad of unforeseen consequences. "There would undoubtedly be more land areas created, and who would own them?" questioned Gertrude Findlay, Assistant Undersecretary of the Interior Department. "There's also the problem of what to do with the gigantic workforce in the ocean-digging industry once the project is finished."
Brown argues that despite potential problems down the road, work must begin soon. "I went to the ocean and saw first hand what we're up against. In a single afternoon, the water level rose and covered almost the entire beach, even stranding some cars. We've got to take action before it's too late."

That way they thought they'd end up with great beach front property once California's under water. But the National Park & Religious Service put the kibosh on that idea when they told Congress that since everyone knows the earth is flat, the extra water will just fall off the sides.....
