Tipping Advice Needed?
What are the proper tipping guidelines for curbside take away servers at establishments like Applebees and Outback? Also are you supposed to tip the waiter/waitress who takes your order and brings it to you if you go inside the resturaunt yourself to pick it up?

Its been too hot to cook here, so we have been doing a lot of take out, and my sister asked me to find out what the general etiquette is on this?

1. Unless it's a huge order, I would say at most a buck.
If anything at all. You're doing the 'service' work by picking up the order, and you'll be cleaning up after yourselves at home.
If you feel you must tip, tip a buck.

2. Ooops - I never really thought about tipping the curbside
person. I just pick it up...as far as I know I don't think it is expected to tip for a takeout order.

3. I always tip curbside as if I was inside the restaurant.
And delivery even more.

4. Thats's a very good question...
If it were me, I would actually strike up a conversation with a waitress there on a day when I was eating in...you know...just start chatting with her and ask how tipping generally works for these types of services.

It's a very good question, because in my area at least, the drive-up services at these types of establishments is a relatively new thing.

5. I agree with mainegreen - a buck or two.
They didn't provide you with any real service, and you PAID for them to make you the meal. But a buck or two is nice, just because.
