I propose a new Doctor Who for copycat threads.

Christopher Eccleston was great, but David Tennant is delicious.

1. I agree.

Is David Tennant gay? Just curious...

2. None compares to this one:

Best Doctor ever.

Mind you, my runner up choice would be:

4. Those guys are not delicious.
:P

I've only ever watched the new series, so I'm not familiar with the old doctors. It's interesting how the doctors get progressively younger, though.

7. True, but their input into their Doctor's personalities were more interesting...
I do like Doc10, but I never really tried fathoming any of the 10 as being shaggable... As a long time fan of the classic and lukewarm to the new series, the one thing I actively dislike is the humanizing and sexualization of the Doctor. He's an alien. We don't need to relate to his life for drama to work. The classic series managed to avoid this trap for 26 years plus a decade's worth of novels...

Hartnell (Doc1) was in his mid-50s.
Troughton was 45 when he took the role.

Pertwee was about 50.
Tom Baker was 40.
Peter Davison was 29.
Colin Baker, early 40s.
Sylvester McCoy - mid 40s.
Paul McGann - early 30s.
Christopher Eccleston - early 40s.
David Tennant - 34.

Producer Russell T Davies is on record saying he prefers younger actors to take the role because he thinks his target audience won't accept older people (anyone over 45) in the role. Apart from accusing the guy of ageism (and he's said other things that suggest he's got some issues), I fail to see his point. Especially when the first three actors were 45 or older and people liked their performances then (and now), RTD is clearly wrong. Of course, he prefers marketable images than anything of structure and depth, so what would I know? :D

8. Interesting.
I didn't realize Eccleston was that old or that Davies was prejudiced. I think a younger doctor would be best, but only because the doctor's on his tenth incarnation and can't regenerate indefinitely. (I'm such a nerd.)

I have no conception of the shows' history, but I thought the relationship between Rose and the Doctors was a highlight of the show. The ninth and tenth doctors have also mentioned being a father, as well as snogging people in previous incarnations. But Wikipedia indicates that the show started out as an educational kids' show, with the doctor and his granddaughter. It does seem like an entirely different show.

It looks like Netflix has a number of older Doctor Who episodes on the "View on Demand" service. Most feature the doctor with the scarf. I'll check those ones, when I'm finished with Season 3 of the new series. Viva la internet. :)

13. RTD also makes valid points, but his ageism one did get to me...
and I'm the same age as Mr. Tennant (who I do like as the Doctor.)

BTW: Eccleston did the Doctor as scripted. Just another job. Tennant, like his predecessors (barring Eccleston) has put something of himself into the role as well. I say this oddly as there are elements to the 9th Doctor I like (or can relate to)...

"the scarf" - that's Tom Baker, Doc4... :D

17. I've watched them since the first time I saw them on PBS
many years ago and can remember the scarf. (We both know what that means)

If we're talking about the newer ones yes, Tennent's cute and has the whole sexy thing going on (he was Casanova, after all) but I'd do Eccleston in a heartbeat.

I watched the Ninth Doctor because, well, it was Doctor Who. I drooled over the Ninth Doctor because I've had a crush on the man for many years now.

It's clearly a cct, but there can't ever be enough Dr. Who. :)

9. Tom Baker is the only Doctor
like Sean Connery is the only James Bond.

I can't get into this new guy - he is past the traditional eccentric and is bordering on squirrelly.

10. Is that the Doctor with the scarf?
I've heard people say he's the best one. After I watch Season 3, I plan to watch some Tom Baker episodes on Netflix on demand.

11. YES. He was on for longer than any other Doctor
He loved playing the Doctor, and Tom Baker referred to himself as a "middle aged 10 year old"

12. Do you recommend any particular episodes from the fourth doctor's run?
There are apparently a lot of them.

15. I can't think of any off hand that stand out.
Personally I like the ones where he is on Earth in the past. Other aliens are non plussed by him but we earthlings get fairly freaked. Starting with everyone asking about the TARDIS being bigger on the inside.

14. I like squirrely. It's just how young he looks that doesn't entirely work...

The glasses do help.

I've always seen the Doctor as appearing an Earthy age 40 or greater. Davison (Doc5) worked mostly because he played the role like an old man trapped in a younger man's body. :)

Oh, "The Shakespeare Code" (Doc10, series 3, story 2) is a classic.

16. I haven't seen that one yet.
I'm not sure that I like the new companion. She has a very flat affect.
