4. We do not always see what we have accomplished
A life we touched in some small way that changed, etc.

I always refer back to one of my favorite movies: It's a wonderful life.

19. I have been feeling that way a lot lately
what's sad is that I spent half of my life being a parent, and I felt like my kid didn't learn anything I tried to teach him.

It looks like he may be on his way back from the terrible journey he chose for himself (which I admit, could have been MUCH worse).

I guess it never fails to amaze me that no matter how hard you try, there will always be things that are out of your control.... especially other people.

Alas, that's what you sign up for when you choose to parent.

You made it through school.
You have a career you can be passionate about.

You and I do not always see eye-to-eye, but I have to say that you should be proud of what you have accomplished.

28. Thanks for all of these replies.
Life just seems shitty to me right now, but I'll prob'ly recover. My car is finally in the shop, and insurance says it is covered. So that's good.

I have a rental car and am leaving in the morning for the conference that started today.

Hard funeral today, but people seemed to think it went well.

I'm involved in this whole pastoral ethical ickiness that may get REALLY icky before its over. I'm not the one being "investigated for disciplinary action", but more like a witness, a most reluctant one. It could get unpleasant before it's over. I dread it.

All of this--having to deal with the car shit alone, watching a family in real pain and feeling inadequate to help (I've been told a good pastor always feels this way, because there's only so much one can do, but still), and fearing I'm about to be hit with a steamroller--even though I have support from colleagues. Well, it all feels like a bit much.

I deeply appreciate the kind words and good vibes. The lounge is a special place.

Oh, and I'll be gone for a few days. Not to worry, I'll be back. As long as there are groundhogs and beagles, I'll occasionally start a short-lived thread in the Lounge about 'em. It's what gives my life meaning.

How sad is that?!

29. beagles are not very sad
I love beagles.

I often add up the little things I have done - cookies baked, people helped, research done, items recycled, letters written, essays written, etc. Nothing huge, or earth moving, but little ripples of good that have had some impact.
