$30 for a plastic wand?!
So I was at B&N yesterday evening, looking around, and I find this long, narrow-ish box with the Potter logo on it on one of the tables. Of course (which is kind of sad, but anyway) I realize that they're selling wands. I yelp and open the box, just to see that the wands are made of plastic. OK, fine, I guess plastic is better than pine for whatever manufacturing/profit margin reason. Then I turn the box over to see the price: $30. That's right, $30. $30 for $2 worth of plastic and packaging.

That's it. I give up. I thought seeing a copy of the Monster Manual V made me feel old and outdated, but the wand thing just kicked me in the butt.

11. I remember that!
A few folks cached the Amazon page before it was deleted, and the "reader reviews":

My 12 year old daughter is a big Harry Potter fan, and loved the part with the Nimbus 2000, so I decided to buy her this toy. I was afraid she would think it was too babyish, but she LOVES this toy. Even my daughter's friends enjoy playing with this fun toy. I was surprised at how long they can just sit in her room and play with this magic broomstick! A great buy for any Harry Potter fan! :)

When my 12 year old daughter asked for this for her birthday, I kind of wondered if she was too old for it, but she seems to LOVE it. Her friends love it too! They play for hours in her bedroom with this great toy. They really seem to like the special effects it offers (the sound effects and vibrating). My oldest daughter (17) really likes it too! I reccomend this for all children.

3. Well I saw magic wands for sale in Boulder for $200+
they of course were being sold as works of art but they were labeled magic wands and were made of different types of wood, metal, & gems/stones...

5. At least those are works of craftsmen
and not cheap plastic things made to upsell someone in Barnes & Noble...

7. And I bet they're selling plenty of them
As long as people pay the price, they'll ask it.

9. That should teach
you for patronizing a chain like B&N. My favorite bookstore was established in 1896 and it's still family owned.

Happy reading!

15. Ha!
Are you aware that I am a publishing professional of nearly 20 years? You remind me of those people I work with who decry the paperback as being an inferior form of book while not realizing that were it not for the cheaper production model, books would be in fewer hands overall. I like the B&N cheap book section, and that's not something your family-run bookstore can afford to provide.
