I tried to accidentally wipe our house out this afternoon
It hasn't been a good day. I hope tomorrow's better. Beware, there may be some TMI about kitty bodily functions...

Without getting into a lot of detail, DH's on a business trip. I was on one last week. The cats don't like this. They tend to do things we really won't like as a result. Our big boy Mojo evidently had some potty problems during the night, which I discovered when I awoke this morning. The most logical thing seemed to be to give him some kind of bath, right?

Now, Mojo's a Maine Coon. He loves water, and he's typically a pretty easygoing cat. Not today. I tried to put him in the sink with a trickle of water. My arms were covered with deep scratches by the time I could finally let go of him. In the melee, I bounced into the front of the oven, accidentally turning on one of the switches to the gas burner. I was so upset about what happened with Mojo that I left the house and went to the store, not realizing I'd hit the burner knob...

I returned home an hour later to the smell of gas. I shut off the burner I'd accidentally left on, opened every window in the house, and left the house to call the gas company. The guy there was totally nice and very understanding. "I'm going to stay on the phone with you and hold your hand till you know everything's going to be fine," he said.

Everything is fine. It scared the hell out of me. The cat in question is now half-asleep on my desk.

Tomorrow had better be a good day.

Julie

1. You Tried To Wash a Coon? Much Sympathy!
Stewart, my black smoke Coon, loves to play in water. He doesn't like to be washed. Washing him could result in limbs missing, so you have my deep sympathies.

What I did with my herd of Coons was have them shaved to various degrees. They all had the back of their legs shaved to avoid dingleberries; Stewart had his belly shaved since playing in water means matted belly; Alice was completely clipped because she hates being groomed and was pretty horribly matted; Thomas is getting a modified lion clip and Fanny has her chest clipped. My place flooded a couple weeks ago, and thanks to the aforementioned clipping, only Thomas needs serious hair removal!

2. He's going to the vet tomorrow
They said (and I quote,) "We don't typically bathe, but for you, we'll do it." He'll be getting a nice trim as well, if I can talk the vet into it. ;-)

Here's to the health of the Coons we love, even if they sometimes drive us insane ;-). :toast:

5. "Sometimes"?
Did I mention I have four of the little (okay, HUGE) bastards living here? These are pretty well behaved cats, and they manage to find new and exciting ways of driving me nuts!

Be sure to ask about the butt shave. If Mojo is like the beasts who infest inhabit this place, you'll both like it! (And be sure to check the stove before you go - been there, done that, but mine's electric, thanks be).

4. It scared the hell out of me
I know that everyone else probably is fine with gas in their house, but it took a lot of persuading on my husband's part to even get me to consider a gas stove. I love it now, but I'm afraid of it. After all, gas = explosions, right? (LOL)

I hope everything's great at your house, and here's a  for you, too.

8. I was totally freaked out

The guy from PSE was really funny, though: "Now, don't go having a party with all your girlfriends smoking cigarettes and stuff tonight." He said that the natural gas dissipated very quickly out the window when I turned off the burner and opened the windows up. I hope I'll never do anything that boneheaded again.

I hope you're fine.

9. I am uncomfortable with gas as opposed to electricity
I like using it, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking about stuff blowing up, you know? It seems like it could happen a little too easily, just like how you described here. Glad all is well though. :)

10. Thank you
I know that electricity is dangerous, too, but natural gas accidents are so much more...spectacular. :scared:

11. yeah they just seem to have that
sensational aspect to them that make me wary. I have an overactive imagination anyway, haha. :) And you're welcome. :)
