Made a little progress on this painting today (aka: Post Your Art Thread)

Obviously, this is still the monochrome underpainting. I focused on the main drain pipe under the sink (oops, I should have asked if anybody could tell what the fuck this is a painting of). Need to flesh out the handles and do a lot more work still.

What's anybody else working on or recently (or long ago) finished?

Pfff... of course we could tell what the fuck it is.

Impressive!

edit: and by that I mean both that I can tell that it's a sink, and I can tell that it's impressive work. so there.

5. Hey, thanks hon.
Yeah, it's the view of the sink in the bathroom at my friend Chantal's place. She lives on a hill over the Mission District in SF, and when you sit on her toilet and look out the window, you have the most wonderful view of the city.

4. Nothing to show, but I applaud your skill at capturing the texture and
highlights on the chrome. Shiny surfaces are very tricky. What type of paint are you using?

Thanks for sharing.

8. Oh, sorry. That's oil on canvas, 24x24".
Painted the shiny wet into wet today, because that's one of the situations where I can get away with wet into wet, and because I didn't want to wait around for anything to dry to get some reflective gratification.

The idea started out as many flying houses in the air. Then, I thought it would be cooler if one house could fly and the others couldn't. I really like things that fly for some reason.

Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 10:00 PM by SharonRB
I didn't go last year. Chicago is such an easy trip from here, I just had to go. If it was in Vegas again, I probably wouldn't have. I'm so looking forward to it. My only fear is that I won't be able to do everything and see everyone I want to see and meet. There are so many good sessions, and between the DUers I want to see and all the folks from DK and FDL I want to meet, I know I'll miss some. I'm really looking forward to the presidential forum and the session with Pelosi, Reid, Emmanuel and I forgot who else and potential chances to get to meet some of them in person. Wes Clark, Dick Durbin, Howard Dean and others will be there, too. I'm really hoping Gore will show up, but I'm not counting on it.

Sorry you won't be there. It would be fun to see you again.

I gave up trying to make clever art some time ago (perhaps you have seen some of my video performances from the 80s - not too clever ((though I do like one of them )) ) and just decided to try to paint what was in front of me. It has been fun so far.

61. Very nice. It reminds me of a painting I saw several years ago...
...by Lucian Freud at the Art Institute of Chicago. It was just a painting of the sink in his studio with a trickle of water coming out of the faucet. All white and gray with the subtlest hints of color in the reflections.

It seemed, somehow, that the whole sad history of the human race was captured in that simple painting.

Here's one of mine from a few years ago:
