The 50 best movie robots
(snip)

We selected the fifty most memorable robots in film and rated them in four different categories:

Plausibility (meaning how likely it would be that, with advances on currently existing technology, such a device could be built)

Coolness (just how well designed, shiny or generally well-appointed the robot appeared to be)

Dangerousness (scoring not only on built-in weaponry, but the robot's eagerness to use it)

Comedy Value (how effective the robot is at providing light relief in the film in which it appears)

We then weighted the results according to an arbitrary scale and mixed a few select robots who, while immensely popular, have not as yet appeared in a feature-length production. See if you can find them.

My picks:
1. R2-D2 - versatile, loyal, fun to hang around with
2. Tie between Robby and Robot in Lost in Space - similar models, I would give Robby the edge but not really worth separating them I think.
3. Data - closest thing to Asimov's Humanform robots in TV or Film
4. Optimus Prime - just really cool technically and as a leader
5. Marvin - I'm not sure the movie version should really be in my top 5 but I gotta give him a nod based on the books at least and the Movie version was pretty cool (I didn't watch enough of the TV series to rate the TV version)

1. If Artoo units hit the market, the service industry would take a severe blow.
Electricians, mechanics, plumbers, IT technicians, phone operators, and bartenders would be jobless.

I pick Artoo as well. He's by far the most practical robot on that list.

4. Marvin from the TV version, hands down.
I don't know about the dangerous aspect... but can probably drive people into suicidal depression though with his endless self-pity.
