Confess!!! Did you see Gigli this weekend?!
Obviously there is no way I'd see this crappy movie with the 2 most overrated actors out there (which Ben never was until he hooked up with untalented Lopez).

So confess: Who saw the movie Gigli? First week out and it was edged out in sales by a movie that has been out for 10 weeks ("Finding Nemo" just slightly edged Gigli in ticket sales even though FN was in less theaters than G)

According to IMDB database is ranked #2 as the all time worse movie just slightly edged out by the other great movie event of this summer: "From Justin to Kelly" (I'm shocked - they both beat out "Manos, the Hands of Fate"

So confessions - who actually saw this horrible movie???!!!

7. Love Rowan Atkinson
Absolute genius!

Gigli? Haven't yet heard of that one... I'm guessing it stars Ben Affleck?

...with a sharp stick, and I couldn't make a decision, so I did neither.

5. I cannot tell a lie
Affleck and JLo have about as much sex appeal and chemistry as
Liza and her current X-husband. Puhhhhleeeze! Can't imagine spending perfectly good money to see either. Why would you even ask?

It is surprising though, because they are both attractive....just have no charisma and seem almost a-sexual. Maybe that's what attracted them to each other.

13. They had less on-screen chemistry than Tom & Nicole
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman did 3 movies together and had no chemistry together whatsoever.

14. Is it really that bad?
...in a word, no. But it is pretty bad. Jennifer Lopez is a fine actress (she has always gotten good reviews for acting and, if you notice, no critics have dissed her acting in this.)

The problems with the movie:

1. Ben Affleck just isn't good as a romantic leading man. The same was said about him when Pearl Harbor was released. He doesn't "click" on screen with women, let alone Lopez.

2. Part of the problem is also the J-lo/Ben backlash. The critics would have been much kinder to the movie a year ago.

That being said, this was clearly a vanity film for the couple - and those rarely do well. Think Madonna and Sean Penn's movie together. Think Mariah Carey's "Glitter." When big stars believe they can make a project a success simply because THEY are involved, the project is often doomed. Usually critics see to it.

3. The plot is thin. Of course, a good plot isn't a prerequisit for a successful movie. But this plot is weak.

Overall, not the WORSE movie I've seen. But I seldom agree with the critics and the public the critics influence anyway.

When I think of other so-called "bombs", they're really a mixed bag to me.

Arnold's "The Last Action Here" was quite enjoyable despite the "Gigli" type critical reaction to it. Hoffman's "Ishtar" was bad but probably not deserving of the criticism leveled at it.

I like Gigle better than Howard The Duck. I liked it better than Bram Stoker's Dracula.

But it is really crappy cinema (like Blair Witch).

17. Wow, Bram Stoker's Dracula... whew man...
The stink from that one still lingers in the theaters where it was shown.

I was surprised to see an even handed review of Gigli (at least your excerpts from it)... I always kind of dug Jennifer Lopez' projects; The Chamber, and even, as much as it pains me to admit, The Wedding Planner (though a subsequent viewing made we wonder if I had a fever when I first watched it. She was good the film however, was crap)... She is a good actress.

As for Aflec, I really haven't seen him in anything I disliked, though I haven't seen his whole body of work so I just may have missed those...

...long before she cut a record. But to be fair, she started out as a singer/dancer BEFORE acting.

Most entertainers experience a stumbling block in their careers. This is theirs.

What is surprising HERE is the number of DU'ers who haven't seen it but can still comment on it. :eyes:

I try not to be influence by hype - for or against -something.

8. Almost tempted in a Plan 9 from Outer Space sort of way
But I have hopes for Jersey Girl and don't want to taint them with this drech. I am going to avoid it and blame the director. Course of J/Ben stink up Smith's movie I am gonna be pissed.

15. Plan 9 from Outer Space was made on a shoe-string budget

so it has an excuse. It was kind of endearing like some of the videos I'd make with friends as kids using Cabbage Patch kids as stunt doubles.

Gigli cost $54 million to make. For that kind of money I'd think they could at least buy Beniffer some charisma or a decent script.

I also hope they don't ruin Jersey Girl.

19. Mr Cranky is my hero
First thing I do on Friday is read his wonderfully scathing reviews... The funniest review I've ever read is there, for er... that boxing movie with Woody Harrelson and Antonio Banderas... What the hell was it called? Play it to the Bone!

Anyway, the lesbian anteater comment in that one still doubles me over with laughter.

disclaimer: Warning, The Filthy Critic is...filthy. He is not politically correct, at all, and uses obscenities, profanities and plain not very nice language when reviewing a film.

21. I would rather..................
circumsize a rabid wolverine with a butter knife that sit through that. Neither Affleck or Lopez appeals to me, but I'm sure there is a market out there that simply adores both, and the movie will do quite well.
