Anyone remember The Lathe of Heaven?
Not the book, or the 2002 movie... but the PBS movie made in 1980.

Wish I could find it on DVD.

1. Only the book.
Never seen the movies. Didn't even know they had been made.

5. I would.
I mean, I did.

Yeah, it's a good science fiction book. And written by a woman too, in a genre that has few women authors. She's a good one, at that.

12. The book's extraordinary

....I love it, but then there's almost nothing by Ursula Le Guin that isn't amazing.

2. I actually have that DVD
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 01:42 PM by Blue_In_AK
which I bought maybe five years ago or so, but I can't remember where I found it. Amazon.com probably. The original was far superior to the remake, I thought.

Here you go:

My only quibble (like other reviewers) is that they had to delete the original Beatles recording of "A Little Help from My Friends," copyright issues, I suppose. That detracted a little from my enjoyment because I loved that part of the original, but otherwise, the DVD is just fine.

6. I have it on VHS
Also have the book. Best SF I've ever read.

I got 45 minutes into the remake before I had to turn it off. Lisa Bonet as Heather Lelache and James Caan as Dr. Haber were all wrong, but perhaps that's because the direction was worse than horrible. (According to IMDB, the director, Phillip Haas, boasted that he'd neither seen the original nor read the book.)

Yes, Netflix has both, 1980 and 2002

9. You could um... "obtain" a good copy on Usenet if you hurry.
I've read the book but like you I always remember the 1980 version from when I was a kid so when I saw it floating around in one of the sci-fi binary groups I had to get it.

If you aren't familiar with usenet then you might get lucky on a P2P.
