2. Hi, CalPeg.
Basically put, and this is my own interpretation, is that the speaker would be lowering himself and wasting his time associating with the subject for any serious reason. Without the play in front of me, I forget if the quote is in reference to Cassio or to Othello himself. Hope that helps.
