Anybody ever try Nutrisystem?
I was looking at their web site yesterday and there's not a whole lot of information there about their system or the type of food they have. Just a lot of before and after pictures saying, "Results not typical. Participant may have been compensated," and testimonials from Dan Marino and Don Shula. That doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence, but I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had tried the system.

Here's my problem. I don't cook and I need to eat healthy as well as drop a lot of weight. I work a lot and now I have access to a microwave and a refrigerator there. It seems like pre-prepared food would be the way to go for me if the meals were healthy.

I've managed to lose 19.2 pounds by eating healthy food at restaurants, but that is expensive. I figure Nutrisystem would save me about $80 a month. What do you think?

3. I tried it
for about a month. It works fine if you can stand the food, although some of it is edible. The ones that are vacuumed packed I tried to avoid.. did you ever see congealed dog food? You know that gel that forms on it? That's what it looked like and the taste was just :puke: .. However, I did lose about 10 lbs and it was convenient, except for the fact you have to buy your own fruits, veggies, condiments, & bread for hamburgers etc. Oh, and avoid the "chicken patty" at all costs unless you like cat food.

4. They starve you to death

The portions are ridiculously small and if you ate that little of anything you would lose weight. The soups for instance were about 1/3 of the size of the Campbell's soups I eat frequently and the Campbell's always fills you up. One day I looked at the label and the larger portion Campbell's actually had less calories and carbohydrates than the smaller Nutrisystem size.

Not worth the $$ I paid in my opinion.

5. Can you learn to cook?
I'm not a fan of Nutrisystem. They teach nothing. Nutrition...none. Exercise...none.

6. I guess I could
but it would be difficult for me. I work 10 hours a day and I have 1.5 hours of drive time every day to and from work. Got any suggestions for cooking that doesn't require a lot of time? I guess I could make all of my food for the day in one shot if it wasn't too time consuming.

7. You can cook a bunch in one day

A day off, that is, and freeze it. Visit the Cooking and Baking Group, I'm sure we could help!

8. That was going to be my point if you said yes.
Batch 'n bunch. Cook a lot, and fridge/freeze portions. I mean, tbh, that's all Nutrisystem is doing. You could also make what you like as opposed to what they want you to choke down, processed all to hell and whatnot. Space those "meals" out over the day into 6 or 7...you'd be dealing.

10. I lost 30 lbs on it
I like most of the foods and the convenience of everything being pre-made. I also like that I get to choose to add the fruits/veggies that I like.

It's not cheap but I like it.

11. I've lost 36 pounds on it
I started in February. Average 5-6 pounds a month. The year prior I had lost 33 pounds just by exercising regularly and trying to following the basic rule, eat when you're hungry. Stop when you're full. Also, low fat, low sugar foods.

But I was still having trouble with the size of my portions. Since my gf also needed to lose weight, I thought I'd try Nutrisystem and see if it would help me get use to smaller portions.

Yes, the portions of the foods are very very small. Here's how I survive on it.

The plan basically says in addition to the nustrisystem foods, you get a salad, several servings of vegetables, two fruits and 3 extra protein servings a day (you have to buy this in addition to the NS foods). Technically you're suppose to have one extra protein at each meal, but often I have them all at once, like 3 onces of chicken in a salad.

The vegetables are key. Without them, I could not do it, and I hope that when I eventually stop nutrisystem - I'd like to lose 24 more pounds, that I will continue to eat smaller portions of proteins and carbs because I'm also eating the veggies which help me feel satisfied.

I also happen to enjoy the food a lot. Not the lunches so much - in fact, I pretty much only get the lunch bars now - only I eat them for breakfast.

You have to eat in the real world, I've tried to handle the nutrisystem in a way that I can forsee I will eat when I stop ordering the boxes. My sister is doing nustrisystem now and she follows it to the letter - she's lost 14 pounds very quickly, but for her its a temporary diet. She wants to do it and be done with it. I'm very comfortable losing at a slower pace. When I'm done I will have lost 93 pounds total over two years.

13. Excellent!
What would a typical day on Nutrisystem be like? What all would you eat? Are the foods that they give something that I could heat up in the microwave?
