Any devious minds in here? :)
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 03:01 PM by Ahpook
We have had quite A few thefts in the neighborhood lately. It started as breaking and entering. The person doing that got busted and spent a few months in jail.

All has been quiet until the last week or so. Seems this person (could be the same) is stealing lawn furniture:D He got us last night. He/she/it got 3 pieces of wicker furniture i had out, but left a couple bits.

Anyway, anyone have any good ideas to set a boobytrap or anything else? I had one idea. My brother brought home this life size GW cardboard cutout as a joke. We use it to ehhh.... take out aggression here and there:D I was going to put a jacket on it and set it in the bushes for a nice surprise if the fucker comes back.

Any other ideas?

1. I do deviate from the norm, but not in a felonious kind of way
Give the cops a call and tell them what happened. Also, talk with your neighbors and see if they are missing anything.

2. I have...
Cops made a report and there are some neighbors that have been hit as well. One neighbor had some handmade rocking chairs and some other crap stolen 2 nights ago.

It's not a huge deal as long as it doesn't start back into breaking and entering again i suppose.

Still a bit troubling..

3. leave out something enticing
set up video camera to capture on film.

More devious: OR - have that something enticing cabled to something immovable - AND - have it connected to something that will make a LOT of damn noise!

Even more devious: OR - have that something wired to something to give 'em a nice little jolt?

More simple: have a motion detector floodlight installed.

Even more simple - get a dog!

:hi:

5. Have a dog...
But he would just beg for a treat and want his ears rubbed by the criminal man:)

I do have motion lights on one side of the house but not in the back where we got ripped off. Just some regular lights that shine on the deck which he obviously didn't care about.

I will set out the George look alike in the shrubbery:) I had it setup in the basement when my girlfriend rounded the corner. She nearly jumped out of her skin.

4. My Dad set up a motion detector/ sprinkler system
in our front yard, because someone kept stealing our Halloween pumpkins.

It worked real well. Especially on teenage daughters who were trying to sneak in the house in the wee hours of the morning..

6. That's a great idea actually.
I wouldn't know how to hook up a sprinkler to one though. I could imagine sneaking about someone's house and getting a nice shot of cold water:)

Anyway, i think i may take a previous idea and tie some fishing line and cola cans to the other furniture. That coupled with Dubya standing in the shadows should flip anybody out? :)

Stealing patio furniture seems less than petty to me. Seems pathetic.. Can you pawn lawn furniture? LOL

9. I use a motion activated sprinkler for raccoons
Should work fine for humans as well. You will get surprised, wet thieves and it may wake you up in time to catch them in the act. It's expensive. You might want to go in with some neighbors and keep it moving around the neighborhood.

Check out the Scarecrow.

10. That's something i may invest in
I don't want to hurt anyone, it's just simple thieves.

It is a shitty feeling, but i can play cat and mouse for a bit.

Funny thought dragging wicker chairs through a neighborhood at 3am:)

13. Keep us informed
The darned raccoons are getting too smart. The scarecrow now functions as an alarm clock waking me up so I can go plink them with my BB pistol. But I bet it would work just fine on thieving humans.

18. I assembled a decent little trap..
I tied some cans together with fishing line and fixed those to the remaining lawn stuff:) I also threw a couple coins in the cans for added noise making ability.

All is well and quiet so far. They should get a decent jolt if they pick that crap up and run with it?:)

Anyway, thanks for the ideas..

21. Yeah, not real worried about it:.
They got most of everything i had anyway:) I'll just make threads on here bitching about my chair with cola cans tied to it, and no one cares to get it.

I really just hope it doesn't turn back to what it used to be. That was a bit of a worry.

20. But furniture you don't want - coat it in methyl violet.
Or, if you're feeling really low on ethics, cover in contact poison that works in 24-48 hours.

22. Build a pungee pit filled with sharpened sticks of bamboo.
Enjoy the hearty blood-curdling screams of purest agony. Crack open a cold one and pat yourself on the back.

23. Adopt an adorable shelter dog!
It would be much more effective than a cardboard cut-out of a cardboard cut-out.
