dilemma:
I booked a day tour when I'm in London. My credit card issuer said the payment went through but the place I booked with doesn't have record of it yet (the other day tour went through fine)
So, as far as they are concerned, I'm not booked. They were advised to check their bank, etc, etc. We have been emailing for the last week.
Now they want some copies of my credit card statement for "proof". I advised them to, again, check their bank, and besides, I'm on vacation in a few days so probably won't get the statement by then.
The credit card issuer advised me that it's up to them to check with their bank. Fine. They said that AFTER this event I've booked doesn't come through for me THEN I can take up a dispute with them over the charge. THEN the merchant would have to provide proof I didn't go on the side trip.
I emailed the merchant back and told them as much. I essentially cannot wait forever and please consider me as not going on that side trip, I'll book elsewhere, and AFTER I will take it up with my credit card issuer. (well, they don't have me booked anyway, so I have to move on)
Does this make sense? Am I doing the right thing? I don't know what else I can do. The tour company has a good reputation, but I don't think much of their accounting department.
