Check out the new Iron Man trailer
Looks pretty damn sweet.

Robert Downey Jr is just as inspired a choice to play Tony Stark as Christian Bale was to play Batman, IMO.

1. That looks AWESOME! Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors
and he seems to be made for the part. Wicked, simply wicked...

Now, if they keep true to everything in the storyline, it will be great.

Since Hollywood is running out of ideas for what to put out there, the superhero genre seems to be kicking some ass as of late.

Now...I just want a re-make of Doctor Strange!

2. Did you see the animated Doctor Strange DVD?
It's a pretty damn good telling of his origin.

3. My friend purchased it for me on DVD...I liked it alot!
Pretty graphic ( but Dr.Strange's world really was ) and it really kept my attention.

I've watched it twice, liking the fact that Dr.Strange was the only superhero with arcane magic powers...pretty cool shit, in my book.

However, Baron Mordo ( in the comics ) wasn't killed by Dormammu, if I recall...he was Dr. Strange's mortal enemy through most of the series. I did like the climax that explained his going to Dormammu's side. Very entertaining...I just want a movie!

They did one back in 1978 ( a made-for-T.V movie ) but it wasn't that bad...here's the link!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077469/

The animated version WAS a bit condensed, but all-in-all well done, considering the history behind Dr. Stephen Strange. I enjoyed it quite a lot!

4. I didn't follow Iron Man much when I was a kid. Please tell me it's not some right-wing
jerk-off fantasy.

The trailer looks like a lot of Dick Cheney-esque wish-fulfillment. I'll probably go see it, though, 'cause I like Robert Downey, Jr.

I can only remember one issue of IM I read as a kid. Iron Man crashed into the ocean for some reason and was dragged so deep the water pressure ruptured the inner sleeve of the armor. That's all I remember.

5. Depends on which continuity they're following.
Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 08:07 PM by seawolf
Marvel has two separate "main universes." Regular and Ultimate.

Regular: Tony Stark is a right-wing borderline-fascist who's screwed over a lot of people (including Captain America.)
Ultimate: Tony Stark is a billionare businessman/philanthropist who's good buddies with Thor -- who in that universe is The Grand Liberal. Tony's not quite that far left, but he's a good guy.

Unfortunately, it looks like they're following regular continuity here.

6. Judging by the preview ( and I could be wrong here ) they seem to be
bringing out the more human and compassionate side of Tony Stark in this one.

If anyone can play a slimeball and convince the audience that he can be loveable, too it is, indeed Robert Downey Jr. When I heard that he was playing the part, I cringed, but after some thinking he is the right man for it.

I have my reservations about it, no doubt, but I'm sure it will be good.

7. Tony Stark is also a drunk with a heart condition
Iron Man/Tony Stark is easily the deepest character in the Marvel Universe, even more than the Hulk. IF this movie gets deep into the character with all his faults and eventual redemption, it will be fantastic. I don't think there's anything unfortunate about the Stark character that I grew up reading, because he is so layered and conflicted......the true Marvel type antihero, that it can make for a great movie. I don't know much about the current Marvel Universe, other than they screwed it up with that "reboot" about ten years ago suddenly changing all the origins. I don't want the kinder, gentler Tony Stark who's been compromised to fit a new era. I want the Stark with pox and all.

My worry is that Iron Man will be treated like the other "B-list" Marvel superheroes(basically everything other than Spider-Man) like Daredevil and the Silver Surfer where everything is played for action instead of story.

Robert Downey Jr. is an inspired choice. I always said Johnny Depp would bring the chops required, but after seeing him in "Zodiac", I've come to appreciate what RDJ can do on screen.

12. if the release date is May 2, 2008
then, they plan on it being one of the "big" summer movies, as that is the week that the summer movie season has started the last decade or so.

13. WTF? When did Marvel do two universes?
I am SO glad I gave up comics in the early 90's.

8. I don't know how the movie plays out
But in the comics, Tony Stark is a fairly douchebag weapons contractor before he becomes Iron Man.

During the course of the story he realizes how much damage he's done by peddling weapons and vows to make up for it blah blah blah.

I suspect the movie will have a similar theme.

15. The Dark Knight? As in-- Frank Miller's The Dark Night?!!
The Dark Knight? As in-- Frank Miller's, The Dark Night?

I don't read comics, but a friend turned me onto Frank Miller's Dark Night and DK2 series, and I was enthralled by them. Will the new movie be modeled on the character Miller wrote, or just more of the same Batman crap they've putting out?

17. The Dark Knight, as in the Batman Begins sequel.
I'm certainly looking forward to it. Batman Begins was an amazingly good movie, ans Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman was perfect. Now all we have to see is how Heath ledger will do as the Joker...

Frank Miller's Dark Knight, however, would be beyond amazing in and of itself. If they made that into a movie... Well, it would be spectacular.

19. The Dark Knight Returns is the Miller story
And that WOULD make for one hell of a movie.

The Dark Knight is the sequel to Batman Begins, which was the latest in the Batman franchise cowritten/directed by Chris "Memento" Nolan. If you haven't seen Batman Begins, I highly recommend it. It "rebooted" the Batman movies with a darker, more serious tone, the removal of nipples from the bat suit, and the addition of Christian Bale as Batman/Wayne, who is IMHO the best Batman yet. If you're a Frank Miller fan, you will appreciate that there is a lot in Batman Begins that draws from another mid-80s Miller work, Batman Year One.

The Dark Knight will feature the appearance of the Joker, as portrayed by Heath Ledger. The Joker will go from being the Romero-Nicholson clowny/funny guy we've become familiar with to the murderous psychopath he started out as in the comics.

20. I actually did see Batman Begins and wasn't too impressed by it.
I actually did see Batman Begins and wasn't too impressed by it. Sure, it was darker than the previous films from the series, but that's really not saying a lot as the earlier films were about as dark as a 1940's Disney flick...

When I saw Sin City, I thought to myself-- "Now THAT'S a seriously dark look. Put the Dark Night in a film like this and we've got something..."

11. Saw it last night on Comedy Central
either during TDS or Colbert. It looked pretty cool at first, and then I realized which movie it was for - and it looks SLAMMIN'! Robert Downey Jr is one of my favorite actors, and my only disappointment was at the end when the ad said "May 2, 2008".

I can't wait to see it.

16. Well I'll be dipped. They actually used THE song.
I've known for years that if they ever made Iron Man they'd have to use the Black Sabbath tune. I wuz right.

and then upgrade to the classic red and gold. Looks good!
