i wish i could have tested this monitor before I bought it. It looks great but the color variation sucks. Whenever I design a graphic or web site on my monitor, then view it on another it looks like crap.
My monitor is so sharp and clean seeming now. I knew it was a little off (differed from what my CRT at work displays) but I had no idea it was sooo crappy. Especially the phase. Jesus was that off.
Most cheaper end PC laptops would probably fail the dropoff test (what with cheaper TN panels and all) but if it's an Apple laptop, I would wholly expect high results each time.
I got it as part of an 'incentive' to complete a project on a ridiculous time table (3 months of work to be done in one). I generally like it, but I miss the smaller viewsonic I gave my wife. I really liked the 'kick' that little viewsonic had.
I have no idea if the Sony SDM-S93 is any good or not.

Sony is known for good LCD sets. Yours is probably a lower end model (600:1 ratio is meaningless; 300 nits (cd/m2) is not; it's about average for a 19" monitor. I like their warranty a lot; especially as it covers the backlight. 3 years is excellent; though an average LCD set will last roughly 5 years before major defects occur.
