2. I thought it was the Chargers versus the Stealers...
Get it? Steal-ers? Get it?

Yeah, I know, but I make myself laugh. Face it, I don't even know if you are real. The whole Internet could just be one other guy in another room pretending to be millions of other people for my entertainment. Hell, not even a guy, maybe it's just a computer, generating all these posts.

Anyway, Chargers by 21. What the heck, it's not like anyone will remember how wrong I was.

5. There's something happening here
and what it is, is suddenly clear...

Watching the intro to the game. The Chargers have changed all their pre-game planning to prevent espionage by the Pats.

This is gamesmanship on a level we can't even comprehend by Belichick! He cares so little for his own reputation that he's spooked the whole league into fearing what "might" happen. If Bush had played the fear card this effectively, the Iraq invasion would have 90% approval ratings - globally.

Pats up 7-0! and we have the ball on an interception on the Charger's first play! D'oh!:applause:

10. The fury of anti-revenge
Revenge is the most coddled and overrated so-called factor in sports. I swear, it must sound good so people assume it works without ever studying it.

Meanwhile, anti-revenge at home is so much stronger and more reliable it's a farce. In fact, it feels like stealing in first half bets. This game is a perfect example. I mentioned it in a thread in the Sports forum a few days ago. New England was guaranteed to have a surreal intensity advantage to start this game, after winning at San Diego in the playoffs. Home teams are livid when the road team thinks it is going to waltz in and avenge a loss on their home turf in the previous meeting. The home team says, "come here and get some more, smack in the face." It works best among top teams and high profile games, especially if the road win was close and/or disputed.

Admittedly it works best in college sports and early in the season. Late in the year the teams are more concerned about what is happening now, and old results versus the same opponent don't carry as much weight. But in September anti-revenge in the first half is absolute gold, the best angle I have. Sometimes, in fact frequently, it wears off in the second half but my financial involvement is long gone at that point.

16. Here's what I posted in the Sports forum a few days ago
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=215&topic_id=53097&mesg_id=53110

"The Patriots are going to be in a frenzy to start the game against the Chargers

They already had a huge fury of anti-revenge home advantage against San Diego via the playoff win last year, especially after LT bitched. New England was always going to be eager to smack the Chargers again to prove it was no fluke. That intensity level typically shows up early in the game.

Now, add this incentive to prove they don't have to rely on cheating to win and the Patriots will be even more jacked up.

I suggest San Diego be ready from the outset."

Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 11:56 PM by mvd
Pittsburgh is also doing well. Still early in the season, but I give the edge to the Patriots over everyone else at this point.

Now I wish my Eagles could have that Super Bowl back. :P
