2. Why did they have to sell?
I thought they won the lawsuit and the guy that sued them was responsible for their legal fees.

4. Haha!! I had a link but it messed up!
Do you remember the lawyer that sued the cleaners for $54 million for losing his pants? Well, they now had to go out of business because of the legal fees.

Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 09:23 AM by SacredCow
The pants-less guy did lose the case, but supposedly has filed another claim against them. The cleaners say that they can't afford to go through it all again, so they're closing.

If I'm not mistaken, the guy's actually a judge- can anyone verify?

On Edit...

Looks like he did a similar thing in his divorce case:

"The trial court found that husband was substantially responsible for 'excessive driving up' of the legal costs by 'threatening both wife and her lawyer with disbarment ,' and creating unnecessary litigation. Consequently, it awarded wife $12,000 in legal fees to be paid by husband.""

33. Those commissioners already declined to renew him
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 12:58 PM by kay1864
From Wikipedia:

On August 2, 2007 it was revealed that a panel recommended not to give Pearson a ten year term as an Administrative Law Judge, after his initial two year term expired mid-2007, in part because his suit against Mr Chung demonstrated a lack of "judicial temperament." Pearson was appointed in 2005 and will lose his $100,512 salary if a hearing upholds that decision.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/rawfisher/2007/08/first_pants_man_loses_case_nex.html

Like a poster above, I hope someone represents them in a counter-suit.

However (from the above WaPo article):

As satisfying as it would be to see Pearson lose his post over his obsessive pursuit of the Chungs, the downside for the owners of the dry cleaners is that with Pearson out of a job, their chances of ever recovering the court fees that Pearson has already been assessed and the attorney's fees that he may yet be ordered to pay would be severely diminished.

As has happened at every stage of this sorry case, it is possible to win the legal battle while still being destroyed by the process.
