4. Not for myself
But I've written wills for other people. Does that count?

Hmm...I should probably write one up for myself...

8. yes, but it needs updating
I don't want my son to have any cash until he's 40. Maybe by then he'll be smart enough to handle it better than he did when his father died.

11. No...I should.
I'm taking trusts & estates right now and we're learning about the horrible things people do when their loved ones die.

I don't really have much to leave that's not somehow spoken for anyway (beneficiaries of 401(k), for instance)...and I think my parents (my closest potential heirs) would do the right thing and not, say, come in to my house and try to take the dining room table (which is mine) away from my partner and his daughter. Still.

12. No, but it's something I need to do
My biggest hurdle is I'm single and am unsure about to whom to bequeath whatever it is I have.

I always imagined that I would give it to my kids or spouse if they survived me. But that isn't in the picture right now, and might never be.

I do feel that I could give something to my niece's children but I'm not close to my brother's family at all.

14. Yes.
I'm a single parent with minor children and I had to name guardians for them as well as a trust manager for the vast estate that I will leave them when I die (aka my somewhat paltry life insurance policy). It's a relief to know that they will have family to care for them and a little bit of money to pay for college, etc. if I croak before they're grown.

I'm worth more dead than alive, as I suppose many people are. Shhh... don't tell my kids, or I will have to sleep with one eye open!

17. No need to
I don't have anyone to leave anything to. I'm sure it would be a mess for my family, but they will just get everything I would imagine.

19. FYI...you don't need a lawyer to do one!
Just get WillMaker software. Legal in 49 states (but not Louisiana, for some reason). You can get a 2005 or 2006 copy for less than $20.

Way cheaper than a lawyer.
