According to the USPS website, the thing is still enroute. Is this normal or should I file a claim?

1. File a claim.
Unless you ordered it from the farthest point on Earth from your house, it should not take this long.

2. I would check first with whoever you ordered it from...
Was it an online purchase?

For instance, Amazon?

I'd go to them, first...

3. I did
she gave me the tracking number so I'll probably have to go to the post office and make a claim. Too bad, I have a test on Thursday so I'll have to figure something out quickly.

6. I sold a portion of an unused Disney pass on e-bay to a guy
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 08:16 PM by LibDemAlways
who was staying at a hotel near Disneyland. I sent the pass to the hotel and paid extra for the tracking and signature on delivery. The damn thing never got there and the USPS site never changed its "in route" message.

Ultimately the letter was returned to me weeks later with "addressee unknown" stamped on it even though the address was correct and the hotel clerk assured me they signed for all mail for guests.

I bet your book was returned to the seller for whatever reason. Perhaps they didn't address the package properly. Check with the person you bought it from and keep checking back with them. That book is somewhere and eventually it will make its way back to the seller if there was a return address on the package.

Unless the package was insured, the post office isn't going to do much to help you out. The USPS site explains the circumstances under which you can file a claim.
