Where can we send flowers to Stacey?
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 03:42 PM by american_typeculture
Maybe we could get a collection going or something. Reading these posts, has really drawn me in to what OMC is going through. I feel like I have to do something.

that we could make donation to in Stacey's name

4. I've sometimes had flowers delivered to the ICU waiting room
or family room, for those who spend so much time there.

20. If she's been neutropenic, fresh flowers aren't allowed.
Medically, it's not safe for her to have.

In all honesty there's enough psycho weirdos out there, I wouldn't post where my very ill family member was either.

I wish OMC and his wife the best.

41. Please count me in when something is decided....
I think meals or someone to come in and clean & do laundry would be far more helpful than flowers.

7. I am of a similar mind
But I know flowers right now would be a no no, especially with how her counts are.

I am sure there must be something we can do... Gift certificates to Boston Market or local restaurants to pick up dinners? I am thinking food
because Stacey clearly wont be cooking for a while and OMC is running around like a mad man going to and from the hospital,
taking care of the kids and trying to work. If we all lived closer I'd suggest we all pitch in and make some casseroles
and baked goods.

Anyone have any ideas?

12. I thought this myself. Gift cards to real restaurants,
something like that.

If someone is the official collector, I can send something.

24. That's probably the best idea I've seen.
Who can set this up? I'm in Oklahoma, so I'm not in a position to be the official collector. Anyone closer to OMC who can help?

If we come up with an official collector, please PM me.

13. I agree, Sugar
They have to eat, but given what is going on, and OMC's anxiety, it would be nice for them to be able to just pick something up already made, or to go out together for a bit, have a little respite.

I really like this idea.

16. most grocers sell gift certificates
and some grocers will deliver in certain areas. Safeway, for one.

I'm amazed that no DU-ers live near enough that family to be able to help out. I'd be there mopping the floor and doing laundry if weren't thousands of miles away.

Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 10:35 PM by OzarkDem
Seems he has family there to help out, IIRC he said her sisters are there. Might be best to put the offer out there and see if he needs something, but if not, that's ok. Its his call.

He's probably grateful just to come here and vent and get support and encouragement.

I'd like to think there's something we can do, but I agree that it might be problematic to send flowers to an ICU. Whatever we do, I'm in.

BTW, a few recommendations would get this on the Greatest page, where it will be more widely read.

39. where do they live? which DU person(s) live close by?
if we have a "treasurer" we can send money there to be converted into a gift.

How did this get handled when we did roses before?

another idea would be a cleaning service to ready the house for when she does come home.

40. kicking and
to bring together some of the wonderful ideas... perhaps one of the grocers or pick-up places (Boston Market, whatever) would do a gift card via paypal, so DUers could be paying directly to them. Then all we'd need is an address (po box, even) to have the gift card(s) sent to. I worry a little about having a DUer collecting funds directly, because, as we've all seen in the past, sometimes people who are doing the nicest things end up being challenged and having to defend themselves against those rare jerks out there. It would be nice to avoid putting anyone in that position.

Cleaning, food, activities for the kids... :grouphug:

42. Who lives closest, that would be willing to organize? (m)
Maybe we can send our dontations to that person, and he/she can get groceries, restaurant gc, etc.

The other option would be doing a paypal thing like was organized for Andy. ( I still miss him)

Does Skinner need to give his approval?
