7. Fill it out and send it in to avoid the felony charges. They'll never bring back the draft.
If by some remote chance they do, become a conscientious objector or tell 'em you're gay. The idjits would rather have nobody at all rather than let gays serve. You'll be all right, my friend; I was there once, too.

9. I remember getting mine three or four years back.
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 08:17 PM by Akoto
I had become politically aware by then and was loathing it. At the same time, though, the punishment for not complying doesn't exactly leave you with much choice.

These days, I don't worry quite as much. The draft is political suicide, and the folks in charge sure can't afford that anymore.

11. Selective Service needs to be wiped out,
and until then require young women to sign up also. Over 95% of all the positions in the military are available to women, so to only require men to register with this obsolete program is sexual discrimination.

I'll probably get flamed for the above content, but sometimes being a realist means ridicule will come.

12. Actually, there were at least two lawsuits claiming...
discrimination for drafting men only, and the Supreme Court ended up throwing both of them out.

16. I was aware of one such case;
decisions from the Supreme Court are way out there sometimes. A perfect example is a decision that prevented anyone in the military from suing the Government (Feres Doctrine). A barracks fire killed some people who couldn't escape in time...the ensuing investigation put the blame on inferior wiring that wasn't installed correctly...and the Supreme Court still said that nobody in the military can sue.

13. I Wouldn't Fill It Out Untill These Nutcases Are Out Of Office
They won't come get you and in my state you can still even work for the government except for law enforcement. You can sign up at 25 and still be eligible for everything.

15. It's a mindjob, isn't it?
"Luckily", it's a lot easier and more convenient to hire Blackwater thugs and mercenaries than it is to re-start the draft, so I think we're safe for the moment.

20. Registering for the old draft
I remember when I had to register for the old draft. You had to personally go down to their office. At the time, they were phasing it out and it was hard to know which offices were still open. I was a month or two overdue and they were nasty. When asked about relatives so I could be tracked down, I didn't know their addresses. So the old crab practically threw a phone book at me.
