Is it just me, or are a LOT of us here losing jobs?

Husband just lost his. Was reading sasquatch's thread about him being laid off, and there were a couple more ppl who responded there that they had just lost theirs also.
This is not a "damn the world" post, just an observation. Don't want to over-negative an already bad situation.
Shall we commiserate?

1. Not losing it completely, just taking a pay cut
They've "upgraded" and as a result my pay will be configured such that I'm taking a pay cut. They gave me a small raise but it's still a good 25%. I am feeling "damn the world" I've been sending out resumes and I've been getting responses but I hate this, I hate the thought of learning a whole new job. Plus I've had some sort of flu thing and now strep throat on top of it. I don't know how much of the malaise I'm feeling is depression and how much is actually physical. It's all so damned discouraging.

:grouphug: to everyone else going through job struggles but don't get too close -- I think I'm still contagious from the strep

3. McDonald's is always hiring
:/ or else people are giving up. They stop counting you when you run out of Unemployment. But good news! Chocolate rations are up and the production of socks is more than double the expected projections!

4. Because many unemployment benefits have ran out
They don't count those people.

5. Not only don't they stop counting you after....
unemployment runs out, they don't count those of us who've been forced to become "independant contractors" and don't get unemployment when the job is over.

7. I painted myself into a corner
They won't fire me because they can't replace me.

On the other hand, I got to make up my job as I went along for
so many years, that now when I would like an assistant, I can't
find one who can both do my job and speaks Russian, German, Dutch,
Spanish, Italian, French and Swedish.

I would still like a cost of living increase. Being paid in dollars
while living in Euros these days practically qualifies me as a third
world citizen.

8. I'll be losing mine soon, too
It's just a part-time job, so it's not as devastating to us as some of these other lay-offs are AND I had a lot of notice AND there is a possibility of getting another postal job down the road, but there we are. Our facility is closing, so about 300ish of us will be moving on.

Good luck to all of you!

9. I can't keep up with the work.
I am going to have to hire some help. I guess a lot depends on which industry you are employed in. My friends in real estate are not doing so well right now.
