They are showing it on the Weather Channel.

What a HUGE mess.

1. You Betcha!
I remember it vividly! Snow on the ground for three months! Tanked our then-mayor Bilandic because he couldn't get the streets clean!

3. That's what they concentrated on too.
How Byrne totally trashed Bilandic the Blunderer, and won the general election.

I mean, Bilandic was ordering people to park their cars in lots that were still full of snow!

2. Is that the same one as the Blizzard of 1978?
There were two storms in that time frame that converged.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_of_'78

Two major blizzards occurred in the United States in the year 1978:

* The Great Blizzard of 1978 which struck parts of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes on January 26

* The Northeastern United States Blizzard of 1978 which affected the northeastern United States from February 5 to February 8

------------------------

I was living in Illinois and we had a wicked blizzard in 1979!

It froze our well water and all the pipes. We were snowed in for days!!

5. Yep. Well, I grew up in the burbs, anyway. I remember having to help my dad back
out of the driveway because the snow drifts on the curb (between plowing, shoveling and wind) were at least 15-20' high. So I'd have to peek around them and signal to him when it was okay to pull out. I remember having snow forts in the front lawn. I remember my brother going up on the garage roof to clear it off so the roof wouldn't collapse. He fell off the roof into the back yard and was unhurt but actually got lost in the snow for awhile. That was freaky. I remember our front picture window being completely blocked by snow. We had to go upstairs to look outside.

What a crazy winter.

6. I'll never forget it
no matter how hard I try. In a deep, deep depression that winter... And the unbelievable cold afterwards. I missed two shows at the Aragon Ballroom that I'll kick myself forever for missing, even though it was at least 20 below (NOT wind chill but air temp.) and I had no car, so would've had to take the El both nights, and it was just too fucking cold... But... One was J Geils and Southside Johnny, and the other, sigh... was THE CLASH and Bo Diddley........THE CLASH!!! and I missed it.
