Remember the show Fury? Remember Pete? That actor was a Ph.D. and professor of acting.

At Michigan State.

William Fawcett was his name



I just discovered this while searching for a picture of Pete for the "what did you cut your teeth on" thread, remembering Fury's intro speech about how 'people say that Pete cut his teeth on a branding iron'.

Turns out the dude was born in 1894, and taught as a professor of theater art at Michigan State University before WWII.

He was also a licensed minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church.

One of only two Americans awarded the French Medaille d'Honneur for care of the wounded in WWI.

His doctorate was in Elizabethan Drama, earned at age 42, in 1936. He didn't start acting professionally until 1942, when he realized he preferred acting over teaching acting, at age 48.

Holy shit!


A native Minnesotan, he is buried in St. Paul.
