Poll question: Should I Plan on Moving to New Jersey?
The apartments i can afford to buy are all in New Jersey. But i really dont want to live in Jersey.

So should i be practical and move to New Jersey? Or should i wait till i can afford something in Brooklyn?

1. What is the prospect of NJ offering gay marriage to its residents?
Beyond that, if moving over the state line is the difference between getting your own place or not, then it seems like the economics have made the decision for you.

25. Deep13, NJ is just like Massachusetts. Gays and lesbians are
getting married in the Garden State, and it's 100 percent legal and recognized.

Some gay people have a more difficult time than others finding a mate who wants to marry them.

But we can't blame New Jersey, or even the Republicans for that!

3. I'm thinking about moving to Jersey City
Downtown, I'm hearing really good things about the Paulus hook area. But I'd be renting, not buying.

Another cool place I'd like to consider, but my GF thinks it's too much of a commute, is Asbury Park. There's a huge gay community now in AP - and it's going to be an awesome place in years to come. I'm also from there so I have sentimental feelings about it.

20. Your lady is right about the commute from Asbury
Mom and Repuke Stepdad have a weekend place in Long Branch, so I'd know. Basically you have to take a little diesel feeder train from Asbury to Long Branch, then get on the real train for Penn Sta., then the subway, bus, taxi, rickshaw :-) , whatever to get where you're going. Asbury to Penn is about 1:45.

On the other hand, as you point out, Asbury is, finally, coming up in the world. What do you do? Any chance you could do it there? (remember, I usually get to Mom's once or twice a year :-) )

4. We have a spare bedroom here in CT
wink wink, nudge nudge. I could rent it out to you at a fair price.

And, you could at least do a legal civil union here, and I think we'll eventually have marriage equality.

7. I know
I was joking about that... I have enough trouble with two females in the house. I don't think I could handle another one or two.

And where we live in CT is not an easy commute to NYC - it takes us nearly two hours to get to Main St in Flushing.

12. There are some beautiful neighborhoods in New Jersey!
Move, build equity instead of paying rent until you can relocate back to Brooklyn (in 5 or 10 years) if you don't fall totally in-love with NJ.

There is a chance I might end up living in the New Brunswick area.

I know a lot of people moving to NJ recently. Weird.

19. I don't have enough information to give you an answer
Where in NJ are you looking? Where in NYC do you need to get to? Speaking from a couple of years of Jersey City experience, "Near the PATH train" vs. "not near the PATH train" makes a huge difference both timewise and economically (two fares).

Of course, were I still in JC, I'd say, "Hell yeah! Go for it! Do it RIGHT NOW!" :loveya:

21. If you don't want to live somewhere don't
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 02:22 PM by KC2
Take it from me. I've been stuck in Texas since 1989. Actually, I've had opportunities to move back to to the west coast (where I'd like to live... or Hawaii) but my husband wouldn't do it.

Don't make the same mistake I made. Don't ever move somewhere you don't want to live... unless you have absolutely no other choice.

You know what people do if they're in their cars in New Jersey in humid 100 degree weather with no air-conditioning and somebody breaks wind?
