Yeah! It's been a long time but they are a few outs away from winning the National League East division. Go Phils!

8. Burrell remembers Vuk
As the longest tenured Phillie, Pat Burrell has been through a lot and we are not just talking about his sometimes brilliant and other times subpar play. Burrell was here when Terry Francona’s last club limped to the finish line and nearly lost 100 games. He was here for the tumult of the Larry Bowa Era and watched helplessly as Scott Rolen took off to St. Louis. He has battled with Billy Wagner, been booed mercilessly by the fans, and taken his lumps in the press.

Heck, he was even here before they had even broken ground on the new ballpark.

Yet through all the near misses and the sometimes rocky moments, Burrell has been a constant. In taking a moment to remember everything from May of 2000 to finally making it to the playoffs, Burrell had one person on his mind.

Vuk.

“I thought about him all day,” Burrell said, getting a little misty-eyed.

Vuk, of course, is John Vukovich, the Phillies legendary coach and mentor to guys like Burrell who passed away last spring. The Phillies have dedicated the season to Vukovich and have worn a patch bearing the “VUK” on their uniform sleeves. So as Burrell rushed from the dugout to grab Myers in the wild celebration after the final out on the field, Burrell thought about his old friend and how much he would love this party.

“Everything he taught us lead to this point,” Burrell said.

There are a lot of people who perform sometimes thankless jobs so that guys like Burrell can go out there and just worry about playing baseball. Burrell definitely didn’t forget about them, but man, oh, man does he wish Vuk could have been at this party.

“I haven't thought about some of the old players (that have come and gone), but I thought about some of the people who allowed this to happen,” Burrell said. “Obviously there’s the ownership and (director of team travel and clubhouse services) Frank Coppenbarger and all of the guys who have been around. But most of all I’ve been thinking about Vuk and how much he would have loved this. I feel like he’s watching over us and he’s here with us.”

13. If Rollins doesn't win MVP
something's wrong, big time.

Played all 162 games.

Only 4th player in history to steal 20 bases, hit 20 doubles, 20 triples, 20 homers.

He did everything imaginable for this team as well as being one of the best defensive shortstops in the game today.

He's MVP in a runaway.

Note: notice how Burrell was first man on the field after the win. For as much heat he's taken in this town (btw, I live in Philly) he took advantage of being Howard's protection. Both Burrell (especially the 2nd half of the year) and Utley made alot of teams pay dearly for not wanting to pitch to Howard. They both got alot of good pitches to hit and they both hit the living hell out of the ball.

15. Burrell has had some very tough years
some of it due to his own mental blocks and some of it undeserved. But he has proven that he is "Pat the Bat" and he has blended so well with the current line up. It was really sweet to see him first out of the dugout to jump on the pitcher's mound.

16. I think alot of Philly fans were hoping for the second coming
of Greg Luzinski in Pat Burrell. Just as they saw Scott Rolen as the second coming of Mike Schmidt. Neither player would ever match up to them in fan approval. It just was never going to happen.

and evidently last year was rough personally, but this year he doesn't have anything hanging over his head so he can focus on playing.

9. I'm guessing this is why my eagles suck - but GO PHILLIES
Usually it's the Phillies that suck and the Eagles that rock.

But hey, perhaps we can beat the curse of Billy Penn this time around. Just don't hang any friggin' jersey on him

11. And of course I didn't get a ticket package this year
Year after year after year of 16-game plans and no post-season, and this year I finally said "Enough - I've had it with them constantly breaking my heart - we're saving our money."

Figures.

12. I went to the game Friday night.
(Yes, I'm a Sox fan, but the Phils are my National League team - and you can't help but root for this group of guys - they're thoroughly charming).

The atmosphere at CPB was unbelievable! People were so freakin excited. My husband and I had been to 6 games this season and this was like a different place, it was so exciting. We still have our rally towels. :)

GO PHILS! (Unless you make the WS and play the Sox, in which case, you know, GO SOX!)
