Radio_Lady's Hot Topics: Did you happen to see the TV show "Aliens in America"?
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 12:07 AM by Radio_Lady

Here's the Official Website for the show:

http://www.cwtv.com/shows/aliens-in-america
(Looks as if you can see full episodes at this link if you wish. I haven't tried that option.)

The television pilot aired tonight (Monday, 10/01/07). It is about an American family that is hosting an international exchange student. He is a teenager, and an orphan from Pakistan. He is a practicing Muslim. The acting was sincere and the young man who plays Raja is very appealing. All the characters were well drawn and the show's premise is fascinating. This is the first Muslim character to ever appear in a situation comedy.

My impression: I loved it! This is a very inventive show which has already raised some questions and complaints. We saw it here on Monday on the CW (Ch. 39 UHF) in Portland, OREGON.

If you saw it, or plan to see it next week, let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Prickly idea, done well

REVIEW | 'Aliens' stirs high school angst into our post-9/11 worries, but you're likely to find yourself smiling a lot

October 1, 2007

BY DOUG ELFMAN Television Critic

"Aliens in America" sounds like a bad idea for a comedy. A white family in Wisconsin takes in a Pakistani exchange student named Raja (Adhir Kalyan) by chance. At first, the mom is suspicious. And kids at school are angry, since they think Pakistan blew up "the buildings."

Can this prickly, post-9/11 concept possibly be tactful without feeling like an after-school special?

Yes, and it's very appealing. "Aliens in America" pulls off its absurd, touchy situation by handling everything with a relaxed tone and excellent film work.

8. This show has a lot of promise, even though I don't usually watch sitcoms.
The concept is pretty interesting.

Anyone concur -- or disagree?

3. I didn't see it yet, but I'm a college student and
the creators/writers of the show are supposed to come to one of my classes tomorrow. The university is also hosting a premiere of the show tomorrow evening, and they'll air the first two episodes. I'll let you know what I think of it after I see it.

his sister is in Vienna, VA. We haven't been to Washington in a long time. I'd love to see it again in the spring or fall. It will be especially beautiful if there is a Democratic President inaugurated in January 2009. Let's keep this dream alive until it becomes reality.

Study hard, Elizabeth! Let me hear back from you if you have the chance. Wish I could be a fly on the wall for your meeting and TV viewing tomorrow.
