Anyone ever heard of the book "Necronomicom" - by Lovecraft?
I had never heard of it before last night and was simply wondering if this was some huge bestseller and it bypassed me, or if it was more of a cult hit? Anyone know how I can find out how successful/popular a novel is/was? Thanks!

1. As far as I know, Lovecraft never wrote a book titled that, it was referenced in his stories...
A later Lovecraftian writer then wrote the actual book, though I wouldn't consider it actually authentic.

2. The Necronomicom is a reference in a ton of fantasy/sci-fi movies
for The Book of the Dead, supposedly contains rituals that allow for raising the dead and all sorts of nasty stuff. It's also featured in "Army of Darkness"

3. Yeah. Lovecraft never wrote the book...
...but referred to it often, inserting the occasional "excerpt" in his stories and novels.

4. It's a fictional book with a life of its own. Here's the Wikipedia entry on it:

5. But this was only a cult favorite, right? Never mainstream...
like Da Vinci Code? Mainly known by those who read the horror or sci-fi genres?

7. Yes. I even have a copy of it.
And no, it was never a big seller or popular book, except in referencing it in other books.

15. It's a fictional entity Lovecraft used in his writings.
Like Stephen King's Castle Rock.
