Just got out of the Hospital....
Remember those Lower Gastro-Intestinal problems I was having this weekend? Well, I have no idea what happened, but there was some blood loss involved. I spent the day and night yesterday in the hospital. I'm back at home now, about to go to bed, but I wanted to check in and let you guys know that I was OK. I don't know if anyone gives a crap, but I thought I'd pop in anyway. I've got to go have a colonoscopy next week, but until then I can go back to work, because it's not physically trying.
Please send love, good vibes and prayers. I am going to nap, because I didn't get any rest yesterday. I will check in in a bit. Thanks in advance for the love.
Duckie

5. Hope you get some rest and feel better. The colonoscopy's not too bad: they sedate you
It's the clean-out before the roto-rooting that can be a little rough, although the laxative has improved over the last 20 years so there shouldn't be too much cramping. If you haven't been given a list of instructions that include "comfort measures" I would suggest that you get a box of those soft baby-wipes or the like to use in lieu of TP.

The sedation means you WILL need to have someone else drive you home. My husband got high as a kite from whatever they gave him, and he fell in love with all the nurses. Everyone was still laughing at his jokes while I was getting the Rx to treat all the nasty stuff they found inside (he had ulcerative colitis). Oooh, and color photos, too.

On the upside, Mr. H. went from continuous bleeding and cramping for two years, to having a boxload of pills to take that put him into remission. Good trade-off in my book.

My own experience was less colorful because I was more deeply sedated, but I still got color photos. Whee. Turned out I have IBD, which in my case means prescription laxatives because no matter how much fiber I eat and water I drink...well...I just don't give a crap. ;-)

Anyway, Ducks, get some rest and follow through. Whatever they find, you'll be better off for getting it treated.

Hekate

I had my mom go get me some while I was at the hospital. They have really atrocious toilet paper in there anyway, rawness aside.
Thanks for the encouragement.

7. Glad to hear you're ok!
BTW:

I read your sentence and it brought a smile to my face:

"I don't know if anyone gives a crap, but I thought I'd poop in anyway! I've got to go have a colonoscopy next week..."

..snip

I think I need to be more careful when I read stuff!

19. You'll be in my thoughts. Oddly enough I had the same thing happen over the weekend.
I went to the ER Sunday for similar symptoms. I go in for my colonoscopy next week, too. I went to my GI today to follow up and he scheduled one. I've had one before. He told me they're a lot easier than the last time I had one, which was almost ten years ago. The prep was the hard part then, because I had to drink tons of very nasty liquid. Now they give you pills. The procedure itself really isn't bad because you're so out of it you don't care, and once the sedation wears off you're fine. I think going to the dentist is worse than getting a colonoscopy. You'll do fine :)

My hubby had a colonoscopy recently and although it's a bit unpleasant, it's really no big deal, esp. if you have the right meds. Good luck. :hi:

27. oh no!
Hopefully it's nothing too serious. The sedation makes the colonoscopy itself atraumatic but the prep is really the pits. Let's just say that you should not plan on doing anything but go to the bathroom the night before your scope. And my sympathies for that. I hope you're on the mend soon.
