I just came back from the funeral home
I met OMC and introduced myself. He was so grateful that I came. I feel so sorry for him as he is still in shock. Stacey was so young and beautiful...I did not realize she was diagnosed in JUNE. WTF!!!...the chemo knocked her immune system and she caught a "cold"...went to pneumonia and here we are.
He wanted me to thank you all for your prayers and support...obviously there was a LOT! He was amazed at the outpouring of love. You folks are awesome, he really needed that. I lost my daughter at age 20 just 4 years ago so I know first hand what he is going through. It's when the dust settles, the cards have all been read and folks go on with their own lives is when it will hit him. Believe me I know. Continue your support for him down the road, he's going to need it.
He also mentioned how he perhaps made some people here dislike him....I told him to not be ridiculous and not even go there.
A statement on that from me...we all here have different views on things and that's what makes us unique. We all agree to disagree. And ya know what? Different isn't always BAD..it's just different.
I'll check back later. Thank you all again...your love and support made a difference to this young man you were there when he needed you the most. You can all be proud of that. It was so very very sad this afternoon...I won't forget the look in his eyes any time soon.

12. What a wonderful thing you did....reaching out
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 03:32 PM by LibDemAlways
to someone you would have never known except for DU. I'm sure he appreciated it greatly, even more than he would have been able to express I'm sure.

When Khephera, a DUer who meant a lot to many of us here, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in January 05, the entire DU community rallied around and supported his mom. Some travelled many miles to pay their respects. That's what makes DU special - the kind and caring people.

Thank you so much for bringing the face of DU to OMC. I, for one, am grateful.

13. We can ALL be class "A" douchebags at times when we are in heated debates.
Yes, all of us. More so with those of us who spend a great deal of time on discussion boards. More so when they are political in nature. We're all bullheaded and stubborn. That's the type of personality that this environment fosters. That's the type of personality that thrives in this this type of place. It's what both makes us strong people AND strongly disliked at times.

We're steadfast in our convictions and anyone who disagrees with any of us is a total fuckface. OMC is no different than most of us in that regard. Some of us get in each other's faces while others start intentional or unintentional malicious campaigns against one another. We are the strongest and best and we are all total assholes.

I, for one, thought that OMC was an asshole at times. Anyone who knows me has thought the same of me at times.

However, compassion in the face of massive trials and tribulations is also a strong trait that the vast majority of us share. More so because we are "bleeding-heart liberals". We can and will put all the assholeness behind us when someone is vulnerable and in pain. Even when its not one of our own, but more so when it is.

I believe OMC knows this or he would not have journaled his feelings and their plight so openly in this forum. He trusted us all in his darkest hour because he KNEW this community and all of you lovely people would step up and do anything they could to help.

My words are just a few of many, but the peace and support that I offer to him and his family is real.

It's wonderful that you showed your compassion by paying your respects as a result, I hope the compassion of this entire community.

23. On hating him...
I hope he knows that it really makes no difference what you do in cyberspace... I posted this in another OMC thread...

I'm sure he will come through just fine. He is very strong-willed, and he has two little boys on which to focus. People tend to do better when they have someone else to worry about.

Tell him this for me, please. I've had my share of hot-headed run-ins with OMC. On occasion I've found him to be arrogant, holier-than-thou, hard-headed, and a huge know-it-all. On occasion I've agreed with him. Sure, he's pissed me off royal a few times... but hate? No freaking way! I only hope this experience hasn't softened they guy! Verbal sparring partners keep us sharp! Make us think!

He and the boys are never far from my mind, and I'm wishing them all peace. The grieving process is different with everyone, in the end, there is peace of mind. I'm praying for OMC's peace of mind.

I'm so grateful that you were able to give him some comfort and peace during this difficult time. I feel so unbelievably sorry beyond words for OMC and his children and Stacey's friends and family during this difficult time and my deepest and sincerest thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies remain with them all

I'm also so very sorry to learn about the loss of your daughter -my deepest and sincerest thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies to you as well

You are right that it really hits you when all the funeral activities and the outpouring of sympathy ends -I've found that to be the case as well. I'll be praying for comfort, peace and strength for OMC and his children when that time comes

I think OMC is infinitely more liked and respected and valued as a member of this board and as a person than he realizes.

Thank you once again for doing this. My heart goes out to OMC, his children and all his family and friends.

56. Posts from the Lounge are eligible
for being on the Greatest page or the Front page, mostly because of our generally silliness and endless capacity for copycat threads that at times fill up the first page, obscuring real content.

for getting the opportunity to go and offer your support. I'm sure OMC was comforted by your presence.

Also I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter. I'm sure this brings back some of your own painful memories. It's never easy losing someone who is so close to us. I have lost some very special people who were close to me, and while the pain subsides the loss of the physical presence is hard, knowing that they are not suffering makes it bearable.

Thank you for being available during this difficult time for OMC. I'm sure he appreciated it, as well as us DUers.

My heart has ached for OMC and his two young boys.

I have had no time to post here the past few weeks -- working on local elections -- but I have made it a point to stop in to check in on the Stacey updates every day. It just broke my heart that she passed.

I think we all collectively have grieved for this young woman and her family. I, like so many of us here, shed more than just a few tears.

Very sad.
