I got a flu shot tonight
and my arm hurts so bad. That's normal, I know, but I just needed to whine. I went to Costco to get an ink cartridge.

How 'bout some sympathy here?

1. I can relate.
I used to have to get a shot once a month. Lupron. In my butt. It would hurt for days afterwards.

So, I know you deserve one of these:

2. How did you go to Costco for an ink cartridge and come out with a flu shot?

I hate the sore arm after shots.

3. They were there...
and so was I. It was convenient -- and they took my insurance so I didn't have to pay for it. Beats waiting in line for an hour or two or sitting in the docs waiting room. It was easy but it hurts.

I did embarrass the heck out of my self though. The nurse sat me down but I looked at the other end of the table and saw a cute male nurse. I said "Hey, how come he's not giving me the shot? He's cute."

The nurse said, "That's my husband." Oops.

7. I work with kids
they are biohazards. I think anyone who works with the public has the same problem with exposure to all kinds of pathogens.

8. My dear Catshrink...
Lots of sympathy here, sweetie...

And thank you for getting your flu shot so early!

I wonder if my Costco is doing that too?

I usually get mine at my pharmacy...

9. Thank you...
I'd check out your Costco -- my sister's Costco in Anchorage will have them. I was glad it worked out so smoothly. I took some motrin and I'm about to put an ice pack on the injection site. Or maybe just a melatonin and go to bed. But then I'd miss Boston Legal. Oh, the pain of it all.

BTW, I loved your new picture!

I appreciate it!

Ice will certainly help...

And the motrin will too...

11. BTW - I always nag my kids at college to get their flu shots.
They've seen a lot of friends lose from one to two weeks of classes after catching the honsest to goodness influenza. The bronchitis and other crap that can follow can really tear you up for an entire semseter.

12. Good advice...
their lives are so stressful they become more susceptible. I'm glad it's over for me (except for the whining).

13. Are flu shots worth it?
Have had only one, about 15 years ago. Never another one since. And have spent a lot of time between now and then working in the general public (teaching and attending school). Haven't caught the flu de season, or any portion thereof, in all that time.

14. If you have a strong immune system, the shot may not be worth it
But if you have any immune compromise issues at all (asthma, diabetes, no spleen, HIV, etc) they really are important.

15. I don't know the answer to that.
But I'd rather not find out if I'd get the flu without the shot.

16. I was suspicious of flu shots after the great swine flu scare.
But I caught the flu about a month before my first baby was born, and it took him about a month after birth to really start thriving. He and I were both very worn out. A few years later, all my kids came down with what I thought was a really bad cold. All they could do was sit in a row on the couch and stare. The morning they all woke up with red eye balls I carted them to the doctor's and found out they had the flu. Later on one of them was diagnosed with asthma. Believe me, it's been flu shots for everyone ever since. The shot is low risk, but the consequences of getting sick can be really nasty. Even worse, how would you feel if you inadvertently exposed someone who got really sick? A lot of elderly people get the shots, but the shots aren't as effective in boosting aging immune systems. Older people really need a ring of protection around them.

My life case is much different, though I have to admit, i felt the same way after the swine flu scare.

Both my son and I ( I raised him by myself, and he's now almost 29) have always had very string immune systems, and have both had the flu of any kind maybe twice in once in our lives, if that.

As far as inadvertently exposing...hadn't really given that any thought...I suppose that as one with a healthy immune system, could still transfer the bug.

Will think on that...thanks :hi:
