Girly, handbag loving types ---- seeking your opinion.
I ordered the purse below for the kid I'm helping get on track for her 1 year CLEAN birthday next month. I'm pretty positive she'll LOVE it ... but since I'm no handbag expert I'm wondering how the below rates on the "Cool, Awesome, Envy-Inspiring Scale" .... ;) Did I do good?

1. You done good!
That is the kind of bag a lot of the younger moms here in MasterPlanistan are carrying.

4. Cool!
The girl I got it for is 19 and hasn't had a life where she's been given nice things, if she got anything at all. She LOVES the girly stuff and while I usually do a good job of picking things for her it's really a crapshoot. I haven't carried a purse since...??? I don't even know when. Credit cards, id, and any cash if I have it goes neatly into a back jean pocket in MY world. I don't even have a wallet! lol

7. Funny thing about it being Coach...
I wasn't going for that at all ... just looking for something that looked like "her", really. The pink did it for sure .. then when I saw it was Coach it was even more perfect, since last Christmas her sister got a Coach purse along with all of her other very expensive crap, and Jenn got a cheap plastic Playboy purse and some pajamas. She's like the Cinderella character in her family. Anyway, her sister, who's always been handed EVERYTHING is always jealous of the stuff Jenn gets now, which is hilarious because we shop at thrift stores, and I score really GOOD deals on stuff that would otherwise be expensive. It's a little evil to enjoy her sister's envy so much, for sure ... but it's like pure poetry! :D

9. Sounds like sister doesn't like sharing the spotlight.
I've gotten some really good deals at thrift stores, too. Love it when I find something good for a great price.

10. Way cool!
That is a NICE bag, and this is from someone who can appreciate a nice bag. I have a bit of a purse fetish myself, I usually get a new one every 2-3 months or so(although I can't really afford Coach bags!).

Good for you for helping Jen out, btw.

11. Nice purse and great price if it is an authentic Coach
and not a knock-off. I was in Pigeon Forge, TN in July and went into the Coach outlet store. I couldn't afford to buy a wallet even at the discount prices.

12. My daughter would love it
She loves pink plaid. She made her prom dress out of pink plaid and black satin.

13. It's very cute. I don't believe it's a real Coach, though.

I hope I'm wrong, but there are a couple of things that tip me off. The pictures are very poor quality and you can't get a good idea of the details, especially important ones like the lining and the hardware. If it's a real Coach, it should come with a dustbag, which the ad doesn't mention. The Coach creed is slightly off-center on the plaid pattern, which is something they would pay attention to on an authentic Coach. Also, when you go to the Coach site, there is NOTHING like that showing, and this one is claiming to be a "Holiday" bag, meaning it would just be in season now, presumably, or else the ad should tell you the year it was released.

As I said, it's very cute, and if you love it, I think it would be a good gift, but if you're paying the $85 for the name Coach, I would think twice. Good luck. :)

15. It is a fake - but still super cute!
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 08:45 AM by REP
"Seconds" don't even go for that little, in addition to that pattern not being part of last year's holiday line. Very few of her peers will probably notice, though and it is cute!

On edit: the lining is wrong for Coach and there's no inside label with number as there should be. Hardware is wrong. Coach linings are very distinct - usually striped silk; I've never seen an unlined bag from them no matter how small it was.

16. I agree - the price is too low, and the lining is wrong.
And I don't remember seeing that pattern in authentic Coach at all. I pay attention to that stuff for some reason. :)

Coach bags are also often lined with solid color heavy good-quality cotton. The cheap cotton and ANY synthetics tip you off right away that it's a fake.

19. I actually paid $65 - shipping and all.
I also didn't buy it for the name but the style ... I DO want to know if it's real or fake though .... just in the interest of full disclosure. I didn't post the actual auction I bought it from, as I didn't want my personal history avail to everyone that looks at DU. Check your pm, I'll send you the link to the actual item I won - although there aren't many pictures.

(she's 20)

I'd be concerned that it's not a real coach bag though.
