26. Uh, well, he was a well-publicized alcoholic and junkie.
His MUSIC is all about peace and love. He, in fact, was a prick, according to many who knew him. I don't know if he hit Carly Simon or not.

The wikipedia article isn't bad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Taylor

42. Why are you rolling your eyes at me?
You were the one who was misinformed about James Taylor. Listen, I'm the last person to judge, being a recovering alcoholic myself, but the fact is, for a large part of the 70's and 80's, the guy was a drug-addicted asshole. It doesn't take anything away from his music, in my opinion, but mistaking someone's lyrics for what they actually believe is pretty stupid.

52. Yep. Well we don't know everything about other people's
personal life and IMHO I think that is healthy.

It gives some wiggle room for a person to grow and be forgiven away form the spot light.

7. To quote the late, great Lester Bangs:
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 12:33 PM by SteppingRazor
"If I have to hear one more Jesus-walking-the-boys-and-girls-down-a-Carolina-path-while-the-dilemma-of-existence-crashes-like-a-slab-of-hod-on-J.T.'s-shoulders-song," I will personally drive down to Carolina and break off a bottle of Ripple in James Taylor's guts."

15. Awwww... Hey, James Taylor's response is worth mentioning too:
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 12:49 PM by SteppingRazor
"If you think (my music) is sentimental and self-absorbed, I agree with you. If you like that kind of thing, then listen to it. If you don't, you don't have to remove it from the face of the earth. It's not for everybody. But to me, there's still something compelling about doing it. Regardless of what the guy with the bottle of Ripple feels."

Taylor's actually spot-on. You and me just happen to be on different sides of the bottle of Ripple. :pals:

31. Unfortunately, the tour isn't coming anywhere near me.
I've seen Dylan a bunch of times though. He puts on a great show, in that his songs are always so different every time you hear them. There's been times when he'll be halfway through a song before I realize it's one of my favorites. A ballad becomes a rolling, rocking number; a countryish tune becomes a blues song; and so on.

It was 94 yesterday.

But it's starting to cool off. It's only 80s today and 70s by the end of the week. And endless sunshine. I wouldn't mind all the sunshine (my mind loves it) except for the severe drought.

It's getting really interesting. Historically this area has been subtropical with about 60" of rain every year. And it looks like we will miss a hurricane or TS this year.

32. I like it purely because his sound is always so crisp and fall-like.
Also the lyrics are interesting, and not always "softie"--such as "Walking Man"'s "Bridges are for burning/Don't you let that yearning pass you by" or "Steamroller"'s "Chicken-choking motherfucking pain."

49. Get thee to a library / bookstore and read Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung
It's a Lester Bangs anthology that will perfectly explain why some folks are rather contemptuous of JT

It's also a book that everyone should read just on general principle.

I love James Taylor and yes, it takes me back. I would have loved to see him in a small venue - just him with an acoustic guitar.....

I've seen him several times in concert, but they were productions. He's just perfect alone, I think.
