Any late night musings?
Mine... at the moment... is:

Someday, I am going to give so much of myself away

I won't have enough, leftover, for me.

Please tell me yours...

1. How's about a Deep Thought?
"We like to praise birds for flying. But how much of it is actually flying, and how much of it is just sort of coasting from the previous flap?"

9. That's right!
And for your correct guess, I'll give you another!

"I bet the sparrow looks at the parrot and thinks, yes, you can talk, but LISTEN TO YOURSELF!"

26. I have a random Deep Thoughts generator on my Facebook, haha.
“If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you’ll look like a dummy, and people will try to catch you, because hey, free dummy.”

“Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: ‘Mankind’. Basically, it’s made up of two separate words - ‘mank’ and ‘ind’. What do these words mean ? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is mankind.”

“I think a good gift for the President would be a chocolate revolver. and since he is so busy, you’d probably have to run up to him real quick and give it to him.”

my musing would be having enough of myself left over to remember my own name by the time my head hits the pillow.

6. How about a poem I once wrote on the subject?
DUSK

It's a time of quiet thinking-
Peaceful, calm, so like the surface
of a summer evening pond-
The stillness as the sun sinks down
reflects the day's last words and deeds
beneath the final light
that shines upon the water's calm-
A sweet caress, a lover's touch-
A gentle breath to ease the dying day-
A fading light to soothe
the surface of the mind...

13. Mine is still a carryover from your thread about intelligence
Wondering why people focus so much on external achievement and why they don't recognize the socioeconomic problems that prevent a lot of people from achieving the external stuff that they're capable of. I've seen it mentioned a few times on threads here today - money is freedom. The more money you have, the more choices you have.

The genes for profound intellectual giftedness exist in every population. Yet some people insist that only kids born into families with enough money and time for enrichment at home, expensive schools, and radical acceleration are gifted.

I was tested at college level and above in fifth grade. My mother boarded socks and my father had died when I was seven. There just wasn't the money and the opportunity for radical advancement, so I spent all that time in lockstep with my age peers and ended up cracking up when I finally got to college because I had never learned to study or how to learn, really.

Of course now looking back I don't think I really needed college and I'm all right with my life as it is, but still people say, "No, you have to be doing some stupid job that takes away your life and probably exploits some people somewhere and causes suffering somehow and make way too much money to matter and have worth." Screw them.

Personally, when everything goes to hell and all our predictions come true like they did with Iraq, etc, I plan to run through the streets shouting "I told you so!" until I get shot.

14. It's that old nature versus nurture debate...
Since I come from highly intelligent parents, and I am not so, I tend to believe a large part is nurture-- much larger a part than most studies show. But, that's just IMHO. Anyway, I'm glad I had a thought-provoking thread.

25. Another musing :)
Okay, so it's copied and pasted from my Sims 2 blog, but hey. I'm sure it was late at night when I wrote it.

I am joy. I am love. I am beautiful. I am universal.

I am child-like. I am as old as space and time.

I am whiny. I am stoic. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I say mean things about strangers, and sometimes I am so overtaken by their pain that I curl up and sob.

I can be selfish. I can erase all appearances of an ego. I am, and I am not. I am real, and then I blink and fade and come back and am real again.

I am joyful noise, and I am eternal silence.

I am emptiness and the absence of form, and I am always changing.

Unfortunately, it is one of the most difficult addictions I've ever tried (1000X) to break.

29. Mine is protection versus openess.
How much do I tell my wife about things she can't possibly influence that will simply upset her?

Right now I prefer to allow her to sleep soundly.

31. You must be female.
Women do that all the time, as wives, mothers, lovers.

Even modern women, who swear they will not do it, end up giving too much.

Men seem to keep more of themselves to themselves.

We are still not raising our daughters in ways that will protect their autonomy.

33. In the deep of the night, sadness holds its strongest grip.
Even a friend sleeping in the next bed is no comfort. In the small hours one is truly alone with ones thoughts, so they had better be good thoughts. Otherwise the night is very long indeed.
