Need help on getting a little kitten now!! PLEASE
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/pet/446593204.html

There he is at the link!! Well I just got an email from the "rescuer" and is asking for a $35 "adoption fee" which was not disclosed in the ad. WTF do I do???? He is so damn cute, I want him but why in the hell should I pay someone for a kitten who has not had his shots and not neutered. The animal shelter has lil kittens all fixed up for $30. But they are not as tiny as this one and I want a little baby like that to add to my brood of two dogs and two cats.

ADVICE PLEASE

5. I thought so too
but the mom may not be taking care of them either. She is just a kitten herself

4. Of course they should disclose all their fees up front, but
$35 is reasonable; the rescuer has been feeding and taking care of the kitten. More importantly, charging a small adoption fee deters people from "adopting" animals for resale to research labs, and weeds out people who don't want a pet badly enough to pay a little for it.

7. I agree with you
this is why I'm asking for advice. I'm willing to dish out the money but my fiancee is pissed about it. I already have two names for him.

Leovigildo (leo-vee-heel-doh) don't ask, lol
or Lou Dobbs

6. Awwww!
I think kittens have to be a certain age before they can get fixed -- maybe this one is too young? Is this from an official rescuer? It doesn't look like it.

There are so many kittens who need homes. They should be free. Adoption fees, when paid to a non-profit org, are well worth it, in my opinion, but if this is somebody trying to sell one, you can tell her that the market doesn't support a $35 adoption fee. See what she says?

8. Kittens shouldn't be free, for the reasons I just mentioned.
If you have a litter of kittens you need to find homes for (unless you know the new owners personally), you should always charge something just to be sure the adopter seriously wants the kitten as a pet and not to sell for research, or worse. On the other hand, any such fee should be disclosed up front, so I understand why the OP is annoyed.

10. well I just sent the rescuer an email
just basically saying next time to disclose her fees up front. Thats the way it should be. I also asked her if the momma cat has rejected the kittens and what is she going to do with the momma cat. IE get her fixed, take her to a shelter etc. I may be willing to do a trade with her. Take the momma cat to get fixed and I will pay for that instead. I think its around $40 at the animal shelter. Cats can go into heat very quickly. I still want the lil fella.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

12. That sounds like a reasonable deal.
Hope it works out and you can get the kitty.

Of course, you must post photos if you do.

9. I don't know how much KMR costs
But it does sound as if they've invested some money in the kitty.

13. I got my answer and here it is
"Yes I have had to pay for everything for him and the mother as well as his brother since he was 2 days old, I rescued him with his mother almost 8 weeks ago and will continue feeding and housing them out of my own pocket until they find their forever loving homes. He will be 8 weeks old in 2 days so he is not young due to the fact that his mother only gave birth to 2 kittens they are very big, fat and healthy for their age. They've been eating healthy wet kitten food everyday since they were 4 weeks old as well as their mothers milk and fresh water. The mother cannot be spayed until she has completely dried up from nursing, her kits will nurse from her until separated or rejected, so she will go to a good forever loving home with a spay contract and Dewey Animals Shelter will have the adopters information awaiting for an appointment. Or I will keep her until she dries up if she is unwanted then spay her and adopt her out when she recovers. Tomorrow the 18th would be great at 7:00pm, we'll see you soon! "

Thank You,
xxxxxxxxxxx

14. Pay the fee. Kittens should never be given away for free except to
someone that you know will take care of them. I don't know why they didn't disclose the fee - perhaps advertising. Don't worry about it. Just pay it and get that little cutie. Your brood needs that very kitten!!!

17. Just to add...
When we bought our dog from a private party, the seller asked us to write the $100 check to a local animal shelter rather than to the seller. I thought that was really cool.
