The hardest phrase to say (for me): "I can't."
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 12:05 AM by Redstone
I had the chance (and the LAST chance it was) today to pull the trigger on the deal to buy that electronics company (that some of you may remember me talking about).

I was all excited about it, but of course, waited to say "yes" until after I had discussed the matter with Mrs R.

She popped my balloon in about twenty seconds, telling me "You can't do it. You simply can't run a company yourself, because you're never really by yourself. The MS is always there with you. You can't predict what each day will bring...what if you have an important customer flying in, and you can't work that day?"

It took her twenty seconds to tell me that, and it took be about two seconds to realize, and to tell her, that she was absolutely right.

Damn. That would have been an adventure. But, as she further pointed out, the fact that I had a really good day today (I shit you not, I felt like I was 20 years younger), that I have NO guarantee that my upward progress this week (I told her last Sunday that I could feel the upswing coming, and it did) was any indication of how I'd be doing in the long run.

And she's absolutely right. But, ladies and gentlemen, I did have a DAY today. Got up early (despite the four hours of sleep last night), charged into work, wheeled and dealt like you'd not believe. Damn near made one guy miss his airplane because he didn't want to cut off the phone call with me. Made plans, and good ones.

Oh, yes. Did I have a DAY, or what?

But that was today. Tomorrow might be different. We may be able to take the little guy's guitar back for repairs, then go to the mall to buy him some clothes. Or we might.

I don't know how tomorrow will work out.

And as for today? Yes, it ended with me having to admit to, and to speak aloud the dreaded phrase "You're right; I can't do that," but it was a damn good day nonetheless, and I'm happy to have had it.

One day full of possibilities. May you all have many of them.

5. Thank you. I know that I am damn fortunate overall, and always take the time
to appreciate that, I really do, every single day.

So this deal didn't work out? It does NOT matter in the long run, and for me to stay with my status quo is NOT something any rational perso would complain about.

3. Hey, I've had plenty of dreams that I actually DID manage to make work out, so
I'm WAY the hell ahead of a lot of people. No complaints from me.

6. Having met you once, I'm not surprised.

BTW I may have the trike back up north by next summer if your son still wants a ride.

8. Is a bear Catholic? Does the Pope shit in the woods? In other words, oh, yes.
He'd go nuts.

12. Great!

It's somewhere in Jupiter, Fl.
First I've got to track it down and bring it home.
I'll get back to you and bring an extra helmet for your son to wear.

4. My dear Redstone...
I know how hard those words must be for a hard-charging, hard-working guy like yourself...

But it speaks to your intelligence, and your maturity too, for you to be able to say that to yourself!

You and I have a dear mutual friend who has had to say the same thing to himself...

He has conquered his demons regarding this, and has stayed busy and true to himself...

And he has learned when to let go, and take it easy...

You can do it too...

And your day sounded wonderfully productive!

One day full of possibilities. May you all have many of them.

And may you too have many of them, my dear Redstone!

You always amaze me with your intelligence and sense of humor and charm...

I feel so damn lucky to call you friend...

7. Hey, it's not like what I'm doing now is ANY kind of thing to complain about.
I may not be able to work full-time, but at least when I am able to work, it brings in enough bucks to keep the wolf from the door...for now at least. As your friend knows, that's a blessing indeed.

And I have Mrs R here with me. Am I the luckiest SOB on the planet, or what?

11. Well, if it makes someone else feel better as well, that works
especially well for me. "Share and share alike" is a concept I enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words.

17. I don't think the right phrase is "I can't"
It should be "I shouldn't" and then you went ahead and made the right decision......

I always heard "I can't" means I won't.... not even try....

but Redstone... you tried, you thought, you wrestled and you made a choice. one that, in the long run is the best choice....
You did more in "trying" than alot of people would have.....

here I am rambling

hope I make sense
