2nd-grader suspended for drawing of gun
DENNIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A second-grader's drawing of a stick figure shooting a gun earned him a one-day school suspension. Kyle Walker, 7, was suspended last week for violating Dennis Township Primary School's zero-tolerance policy on guns, the boy's mother, Shirley McDevitt, told The Press of Atlantic City.

Kyle gave the picture to another child on the school bus, and that child's parents complained about it to school officials, McDevitt said. Her son told her the drawing was of a water gun, she said.

A photocopy of the picture provided by McDevitt showed two stick figures with one pointing a crude-looking gun at the other, the newspaper said. What appeared to be the word "me" was written above the shooter, with another name scribbled above the other figure. School officials declined to comment Friday. A message left at the superintendent's office Saturday was not returned.

Kyle drew other pictures, including a skateboarder, King Tut, a ghost, a tree and a Cyclops, the newspaper reported.

2. ....
:banghead:

My 7 year old likes to add blood to his pictures. He's also fond of drawing alligators eating people and animals complete with guts and blood.

4. You might as well lock him up for life, just in case
He's obviously a menace to society. No 7 year old in the history of the country has ever drawn pictures like that! :P

3. This has gotten so out of hand
but with the problems with kids coming to school with guns and violence, even little kids are scrutinized for every little thing. The schools' hands are tied, because of liability.

7. Is there some sort of crazy law on the books....
...where drawing a gun in a crowded area is just as bad as "drawing" a gun in a crowded area?

Good grief.

17. Obviously, we need to remove all paper and pencils from classrooms.
Once there's no more paper, books, or writing implements, children will finally be safe to get an education.

18. School administrators are usually very stupid people
You'll almost always find that people with real Ph.D.'s are much brighter and have much more common sense.

21. This reminds me of a short story...
"Gladly Wolde He Lerne" by Harry Turtledove

It describes one man's career in education. He starts off at the bottom, moving money around various districts to meet budget requests and the like. Then he works his way up the ladder, becoming a district adminstrator, managing the finances of a school district. He works more, goes to school, took an internship, and eventually manages to become a principal. He does that for a while, then decides to take the plunge. He takes the night courses, gets his doctorate in a tough, tough academic setting, polishes his resumé, and applies for and gets his pick of the the best jobs in the pyramid. The pinnacle of his career...

A teacher.

22. God damn, zero tolerance.
It is designed by idiots that find appropriate action bewildering.

You want a good example of how ridiculously afraid of guns my school administrator has become... We are no longer allowed to say "Oh, shoot."

Apparently, that exclamatory phrase indicating frustration encourages children to become violent with guns. :banghead:
