All right ... Who else has been on DU since 2001?

Jeez, sometimes I can't believe how much time has passed since I first clicked onto this site.

Six frickin' years? No way. My kids have gone from baby-toddlers to almost tweeners in that time. :wow:

Not trying to be elitist ... Just curious who else has made this long, strange trip. :hi:

Practically from the beginning. Relatively low-key member. Never been banned, I think I've had one post removed, never joined a clique, never tangled with another DUer. I just keep coming back.

I fly under the radar. :)

I didn't join until October 8, since I didn't have a home computer. But I lurked from early February of 2001.

On edit: The triplets were less than one when I joined. Next Sunday, they will be 7.

jobs..same industry (health insurance) but three different insurance companies..since I've been on DU, two of my brothers have died as has my mom's husband.

I've been a lurker since 2001, finally got the chance to join last year.

It was in the first part of 2001, I think. DU was a different place then. Lots of names have come and gone from here in those years, but I still find it to be an on line community that has a fairly low signal to noise ratio. Lots of good information here and too many good posters to list.

Seems to me the oddest part of the whole thing has been watching the news media lag behind DU by months. Amazes me to this day.

But I'm an incredible slacker, with only about 3000 posts.

Spring of 2001. I was doing protests at the time and discovered the Democratic Underground Yahoo Groups (that'll take a few folks back) and then made my way eventually to the website when the groups were shut down.

My first user name was Denbot. I moved after a break-up and changed ISP's. Months later I could not remember my password and of course could not retrieve my old e-mail account messages so I re-registered as Puerco.

it's been ugly, real ugly. but DU sure helped.

which led me to Buzzflash, which led me here. I was thirsting and wandering in the desert, wondering if anybody anywhere felt as bad as I did about what had happened in December 2000. I found LOTS of solidarity and sympathy here, and have never left since then. My kids were both in grade school. Now, one's off to college already. My dad had already died, mercifully having never experienced the sorrow of seeing what was to come. My father-in-law lived to see 9/11 but not the bombing of Afghanistan, and certainly not Iraq. Mother-in-law and mom finally passed, too, although my poor sweet mom-in-law was "gone" mentally long before her body followed. Time, time, time...

But was under a different screen name ;)

I was probably one of the very first members...I got directed over here by BartCop.com, when it was the main site for anger at the 2000 theft.

My older son was 6 months old when I joined DU. Now he's almost 7 and his little brother is four next week. So much has changed in that time.

I started as catpower2000. I think I joined in March, and started posting like crazy right away. My output has slowed considerably since then - especially since I took a couple of nice long breaks. :D

I thought you had left years ago, I used to post under freddie57, but come the amnesty i dumped that as fast as I could, it wasn't a very good choice for a user name. Damn, I'm glad to know you're still around.

I remember being in the depths of black black despair from Jan 01 till sometime that summer. I couldn't watch the news, read the paper, nothing, man I was depressed. Sometime that fall i started thinking there has to be other people who feel like this, so I started looking.

The first place I found was yahoo groups, but that wasn't what I was looking for, then someone posted about bartcop, and that was close, but just not it. Someone there posted about DU, so, I came here and in ten minutes was filling out the registration and posting.

I was home.

Although it seemed to take forever to get out of the 700 Club ...
