Now, I guess, it's because you're (or they're) morally superior or their GM's a fundie or they aren't good stewards of the planet or whatthefuckEVarrrr.

Sports hate used to come from the gut. You didn't need a reason.

I liked it a lot better then.

8. Well, for example, I could replace "sports" with "religion" in your previous post.
I think it's ridiculous and total insanity that people kill and die over a bunch of fairy tales. But, you know, that would be rude of me to say.

15. This was your previous post:
it's frickin *sports*... SPORTS!

I will never understand those who cry when their team loses... or riot...or just whatever. It's a game. Game. G. A. M. E. game!

And I could easily say:

It's frickin *religion*...RELIGION!

I will never understand those who kill other people over some invisible man in the sky...or martyr themselves. It's a fairy tale. Fairy tale. F.A.I.R.Y. T.A.L.E. fairy tale!

But even though I do think that about organized religion, I keep my trap shut, because it's important to other people and I don't like to denigrate something that means something to them. I know you're joking around in these threads, and I hope you know I like you, but I think it's just rude to post in multiple thread to make fun of other people's passion about something that doesn't interest you.

16. Huh again!
I never said it didn't interest me... I love sports... I just don't see the point of trying to make it some serious issue (as religion and politics are)... I'd rather have it be separate, so that I can enjoy it, that's all.

Sorry if I was being rude. Didn't mean to.

17. S'alright. :)
Seems like every time there's a major sporting event going on, there are some people in the Lounge who post things like "I don't give a damn about sports!" Maybe I was responding to that feeling in general more than your specific post.

I think there's a reason athletics and athletic competitions with fans have survived since literally the dawn of modern civilization. Comeraderie, sportsmanship, to love something outside yourself and give strength and heart to the people playing the game...I think that's important stuff. The commentators in the recent ALCS talked a lot about the "Fenway advantage" - that being in that stadium with all those fans pouring their hearts into the game and the guys on the field gave the Sox a distinct advantage over the other team. It's powerful and fascinating to me.

Anyway, no hard feelings.

14. there is still that passion out there
i hate the yankees because they are the yankees. unlike rudy g, i cannot ever root for the yankees to win (even if it was against a team led by bush, cheney, rummy et al). the same can be said for the dolphins and colts in football, canadians in hockey, and the lakers in basketball.
