Okay, PEOPLE! Is this not the best song?
I posted it once before and got no response but I've just listened to it three times in a row and... what's wrong with my dear DUers? Check it out:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=dUIsQo4K70Y

Going to a Town

I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm going to a place that has already been disgraced
I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I'm so tired of America

I'm gonna make it up for all of The Sunday Times
I'm gonna make it up for all of the nursery rhymes
They never really seem to want to tell the truth
I'm so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead

Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having loved?
Tell me, enough of thinking everything that you've done is good
I really need to know, after soaking the body of Jesus Christ in blood
I'm so tired of America

I really need to know
I may just never see you again, or might as well
You took advantage of a world that loved you well
I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead
I got a soul to feed
I got a dream to heed
And that's all I need

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I'm going to a town
That has already been burnt down

3. Thank you Ava!
I've not heard much of his work, but my 16-yr-old daughter brought this song to my attention. For some reason I love it.

I hope you're doing well. You just signed up for, what was it, ACT? Ugh. Study, study, study. Even very bright people screw up if they don't study the format. Of course, you aren't the average bright person. :D

I liked the movie "The Color Purple" as well as I like the book. So fuck the critics... some of us have discriminating taste. :D

10. Studied up but dumped again.
I'm hoping, temporarily as is the norm, but one never knows about these sensitive types. (nervous laugh)

16. He is and he will.
But we begin to wonder what's wrong. I know: we are exactly the same romantic, melodramatic, waiting for a miracle type. We'll either love one another eternally or give up on love entirely. I'm voting on option #2, because I ain't fucking worthy.

Neither is he, BTW.

4. Love, love, love "Release the Stars" too.
Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 10:55 PM by Lex
Probably on youtube (yes, here he is on Letterman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxQXgeP6xYs ), but here's the lyrics:

Release the Stars

Why do you keep all your stars in from your studio on Melrose Avenue?
You have locked all your assets up in life-long contracts to you
Didn't you know that old Hollywood is over?

Oh, can't you see all the good that celebrity can do for those in the dark?
Yes of course, I am speaking in metaphors for something more in your heart
Didn't you know that old Hollywood is over?

So why not just release the gates and let them all come out?
Remember that without them there would be no Paramount
No paramount need to hold on to what isn't yours
Release the stars

The more that you fight, then the more they will scrutinize and realize just your size
And believe me, you are no match for the public that has seen the whites of your eyes.
Didn't you know that old Hollywood is over?

Old Hollywood is over
So why not just release the gates and let them all come out?
Remember that without them there would be no Paramount
No paramount need to hold on to what isn't yours
Release the stars

Release the stars, release your love, release the stars
Release your love, 'cause Hollywood is over
Why do you keep all your stars in from your studio on Melrose Avenue?

7. My dear crim son!
Well, I can't say I think it's the BEST song...

But it is interesting!

He has a rather languid style, I think...

I like my singers to be a bit more energetic...

Thanks for posting!

14. Oh, how the wind has been pounded out of my sails!
It's all about the lyrics: the melody is rather traditional, if not to say, baroque. But each to his(or her lovely) own. Hi, Peg!

21. Feeling better.
Listening to Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" right now on my new turntable. :woohoo:

I'm almost 2/3rds done on the novel, plus I recently discovered a Mexican restaurant near me sells Mexican Coke (sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup -- much better taste), which was the highlight of my week... kind of sad if you think about it.

23. Nah. The high point of my week was finding an old jar of salsa
in the back of the fridge when I was debating... frozen burritos or PB&J?

Happy you're happy-ish. Pleased about the novel and expecting royalties when they start rolling in. You know, 'cus I've been there.
